Echeverry Out for the Season

0

The speculation may now officially be laid to rest. Oscar Echeverry has been playing injured. Quite injured.

According to Brian Lewis at the NY Post, Eche will go under the knife for season ending knee surgery. This leaves the forward options extremely thin up top - with Wolyniec and Megaloudis being the top forward options (since Magee seems to be considered a midfielder now adays).

Rojas and Pietravallo Available v. Galaxy

4

Red Bulls Reader gives word that Vinotinto great Jorge Rojas and the Argentine destroyer, Juan Pietravallo, will be eligible for some solid minutes against Beckham and his Galaxy squad. This is excellent news for the team, which has struggled to secure its midfield play since Reyna went down earlier in the season, and hasn't been able to find the creativity to put the ball in the back of the net either.

Rookie Report: Capitol flashback

2

Once upon a time a scrappy thirteen year-old with big dreams came to the city of big ideas for "The Cherry Blossom Festival Soccer Tournament." He was supposed to get to play soccer on The National Mall with a better-than-average club team. Let it be known that this kid was a bit excited at his prospects.

All The Bull: 7/14

+ Jorge Rojas is in camp with the team, as are Pietravallo, Cichero and Jimenez. All would like this weekends Galaxy game to be their debut, but none can be confirmed. I guess they have 4 days of training to prove their worth.

+ George Welcome is in camp as well.

The worst signing of the MLS season (that you probably never heard of)

5

With the 2008 MLS season at its midway point it is a good time to consider the signings MLS teams made last pre-season and how they have done so far. Before we get to that this weekend, I wanted to point to one signing that may be the bust of the year, but a bust you haven't heard much about.

A Goose in the press box

0
Saturday night's match at Home Depot Center brought about several former US World Cup veterans. Before the match, I went to grab my seat and sitting a few spots down from me was Jeff Agoos. Had Andrea been at the game, she would have sat right next to the former DC United/MetroStars/Quakes/USMNT defender. Click to continue reading...

Belated Recap: Red Bulls 1 - 0 Dallas

1

The team continued with the Osorio Mantra - it doesnt matter if you do it ugly, just so long as you win. And for yet another week, the Bulls flirted .500 and somehow managed to avoid going under.

The team featured the same 4-3-1-2 formation, which fluctuated to a 4-4-2 at times on the defense.

New York Signs Columbian Striker

10
As reported earlier on Ives, the Red Bulls signed Colombian striker Oscar Echeverry. The 30-year-old forward should help added some depth to a solid attack for Juan Carlos Osorio. Plus, more importantly, he will he there for matches that Jozy Altidore will miss this summer with the national team for the Olympics and other duties. Click to continue reading...
