Some Soccer, Some Other Stuff-It’s Saturday

0
It's a warm, foggy Saturday morning here in post-election New Hampshire.  Most of the political signs are put away, and gunshots now ring through the hillsides. Rebellion against the new socialist state?  Post-election right wing despair?  Nah.  Hunting season.  It's more personal this year than some, as the doe and two fawns that we've been watching [. Mid-Week Action

0
Nothing like a little mid-week action to brighten the daily grind...plenty of football going on as well, so worth a quick take...

Tuesday night saw a full slate of Championship fixtures and an opportunity for the Tractorboys to build on their win at Plymouth as we welcomed Charlton and former Town hero, Matt Holland. Click to continue reading...

McCain Unmasking Monday, Tech Tips, and Soccer Sundries

1
The Time Finder posted information about some great computer shortcuts this morning - along with a link to the NY Times article by David Pogue.  Who knew, for example, that you can use Google like a calculator?  And here's a cool tip that I found in the "Comments" - A little less known one I enjoy [. Friday Flotsam (and Jetsam, Too)

0
I'm very excited to be heading over to HollyCornblog's house today for a weekend visit. We'll be doing some chores at the lake like bringing in the dock, bringing in HollyCornblog's sailboat, etc. I'll also be inspecting the amazing and gargantuan work that she and CharlieHopbrew did on the new woodshed up there. McCain Beyond the Palin - Even Turdblossom Decries the Lies

1
Yes, it's true.  Turdblossom (aka Karl Rove) has spoken out about the excesses of the McCain campaign ads.  To my mind the fact that he would do this publicly speaks, not to any new found sense of decorum or fair play in the doughy sleazeball, but to the fractiousness and internecine warfare within the Republican [. Rushed Saturday Stuff …

1
This morning's post will likely be quick, as I've gotta make 2 dozen sandwiches for some soccer-game tailgating by 7:30 AM.  But enough about me! On Truthdig I came upon this Palin Perspective from John Dean (yes, that John Dean).  Basically he argues, rather damningly, that were a sitting President in the position of having to [. Tournament Soccer - Another Simple Tool For Your Use

Folks, I'm working with the Ozark Tigers and Nixa Eagles on their weekend tournament, the Christian County Men's Soccer Tournament. In an effort to make the updating and publishing of the Tournament results more effective (and easier), I've created a simple spreadsheet that can be edited by several people and automatically published.

Should South Africa Coach Get Boot?

3
Now that South Africa has been eliminated from the 2010 African Cup of Nations, will South Africa coach Joel Santana get the boot?

A South African newspaper editorial from the Cape Times doesn't seem to think so.

The South African Football Association must stay calm and resist the urge to fire coach Joel Santana after Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the African Nations Cup in Angola in 2010.

Boltgirl Lambasts Rudy/McCain, Donovan/Eagles Soar, Phillies Shut Down the Mets

1
It's my kind of Sunday! First, this is an excellent sharp retort from Boltgirl to Rudy's  bull about Obama's record.  Truth will out (I hope). On the first full day of NFL action the Pats pulled out a scary win - and it remains to be seen what Brady's status will be.  He walked off ... but [...] Click to continue reading...

Marc Overmars is back???

11
It does appear to be the case that former Dutch International and Arsenal, Ajax, and Barcelona winger Marc Overmars is back after 4 years of not playing professionally. He has been the manager for Dutch second division side Go Ahead Eagles, and he will come out of retirement to play for them. His goal is to lead the team by example and presumably get them back into the Eredivise. Click to continue reading...

Reading reject joins Crystal Palace: Eagles swoop for two attacking midfielders

7
I'm in the minority of people who actually like Neil Warnock, having tremendous respect for the Crystal Palace manager's achievements within the game. Indeed, there can be few people who have a greater knowledge of the Championship and the former Blades boss has today landed a couple of new players for his Eagles squad, which [. Ol’ Fast Legs is Back

Time really is a great healer. Turns out it can heal career-ending injuries. It Ain’t Over(mars) Till the Fat Lady Sings

2
Regulars to this site will probably tell you that it's not very often that we are kind towards Arsenal or any of their associates. There's the odd player over the years that slips through the net though. That is to say that for every undeniable prick like Freddie Ljundberg, there is class act like Thierry Henry that transcends the ‘Arsenal-ness' of the rest of the team and manages to be almost likeable. Chris Eagles Departs

To me, the United career of Chris Eagles will largely be remembered more for his silly haircuts, than any actual football ability and is probably the main reason why he'll be taking both with him to Turf Moor.

Essex are good bet for Twenty20

I don't usually watch cricket. I know the basics of course, but all this "silly man off", "third man" and "sqaure silly off" gets on my nerves. Anyhoo, trying to make the best of Sky Sports during the summer, I've been tuning into the thoroughly enjoyable Twenty20 games, and in the last couple of weeks they've been in Chelmsford to show the Essex Eagles.
