The Importance of Being Cesc Fabregas

3
If the first two Premier League games of the season have taught Arsenal anything it's that Cesc Fabregas has to be kept in bubble wrap. With Tomas Rosicky's never-ending injury saga, Fabregas is the only pure creative force left in Arsenal's midfield. The West Brom match kicked off in style, it seemed that Fabregas wasn't to [. Arsene has big decisions to make

3

The fallout from the Fulham game has not been pretty. Condemnation of the performance and the wafer thin squad has been widespread, and rightly so.

I've already said plenty about what we need to do about it so it is somewhat depressing to hear the manager say we're not close to signing anyone.

Arsenal Not Good Enough for 3 Points at Fulham

1
It's a big disappointment. But Fulham deserve full credit for this win. They had a plan and executed it perfectly: neutralize the Arsenal's weak central midfield and clamp down on the left flank.

Arsenal's team on the pitch were not fluid; their passes astray, their runs sluggish; they were often a step late to the ball. Click to continue reading...

A terrible performance, but not an unexpected one. Arsene has a week left to fix it.

This result could be seen coming from May this year, if not January.

Sell Diarra, don't give Flamini what he wants, let Gilberto go, throw in a rare injury to Cesc and a completely predictable one to Diaby and you have, da da dah! NO CENTRAL MIDFIELD!

Anyone who saw how we laboured last week with Eboue and Denilson as the CM partnership could tell they were only millimetres from disaster in that game. Click to continue reading...

Nobody to play a major role against Fulham - Saturday round-up

0

Hmm, where to start? *boilk* might be a good place.

Now, let's put that behind us and move on. We have a game against Fulham today and preparation has been far from ideal. With all the internationals this week the manager just had one outfield player to work with, Denilson, and that may see a revolutionary 0-1-0 formation today at Craven Cottage.

Goal from Nasri on his debut gives Arsenal 3 points, Denilson with his trademark cutback assist

0
Ah, the Premier League season is upon us - I can't type that without smiling.

Arsenal just about collected 3 points to start the campaign against West Bromwich Albion (I don't think Albion supporters like it when people call their team West Brom - another tidbit I learned listening to 606: "It's not West Brom. Click to continue reading...

Top Player Performances: Week 1

Something funny to start our post. For this, we'll go to Nicolai V. Gogol and his story, Ivan Fyodorovich and His Aunt. The setting: how will a newcomer recognize Stepan Ivanovich? "You will recognize him at once for he is the only one to wear printed cotton trousers and a yellow cotton coat. And here is another sign by which you may recognize him: when he walks he always waves his arms about. Click to continue reading...

Arsenal 1-0 WBA

The sun was out, there were a couple of chilled beers sitting in my stomach and I must confess, it was glorious to be back watching football at the Grove.

It's funny though, because every Arsenal fan I spoke to or overheard before the game was cautious in the extreme.

Gunners Open Season with Narrow 1-0 Win

Arsenal Supporters did not need the deficit war cry yet. They earned a rather comfortable, albeit narrow, victory at home against West Bromwich Albion.

I will leave player ratings to my colleague 433 whose rantings (if he ever does that) are more reasoned and balanced than I am when I speak in my normal voice. Click to continue reading...

Three points to start - Sunday round-up

0

So the season starts with a win, three points and a reasonable performance given the understrength nature of the side, particularly in midfield.

There's nothing like an early goal to settle the nerves and that's exactly what we got. It was a lovely goal too. Bendtner played it wide to Clichy, who fed it to Denilson whose run into the box was excellent, he cut it back for new boy Samir Nasri to sidefoot home and to make it 1-0.

Arsenal labour to the win, but win nonetheless.

3
Ah, football. So nice to have you back. Having not been able to see the entirety of the Twente match - not a bad thing from the sound of it - this was my season opener.

And didn't it open in a lovely fashion? Nice work by Clichy led to a precise pass by Denilson and a smooth finish from Nasri. Click to continue reading...

West Brom preview - Wenger round-up

So here it is. At least. The new season. Are you excited? Chomping at the bit? Psyched? Pumped?

Yeah, all of those things. As usual on the eve of a big game we hear a lot from Arsene Wenger at his pre-match press conference. Sometimes on a Saturday morning I look at the glut of stories and it's amost intimidating thinking about how to sort them and present them.

It’s deja vu all over again

0

Before the 2007/08 season, many critics/pundits were forecasting what would be a negative season for the Gunners. They were too young, too inexperienced - whatever the excuse, this would be the season that would see them fall out of the top four, perhaps only the top three and concede one spot on the table to Liverpool.

Arsenal-West Brom Preview, New Signing?

0
Well here it is, the start of another season, finally. It seems like it's been ages since the last one, but probably just because everyone's been bitching and moaning all summer about how Wenger can't manage a team. Even with the Euros this summer seemed ridiculously long. But tomorrow that's all over because the Premiership starts, and we've got West Brom up first. Click to continue reading...

Video: CL qualifier: Arsenal beat FC Twente, 2-0

1

Arsenal came back in the second half with Gallas and Adebayor's goal. They were missing Cesc and it showed in most part of the game. Denilson and Aaron Ramsey started and their game picked up in the second half. But it was the veterans who pulled out the win. RVP's swerving free kick which Gallas was able to put his body on and steer the ball into goal and a Theo Walcott (yes, he can be considered a veteran in this Arsenal team) pass to Adebayour to slot the ball home.

Gooners

Not pretty but got the job done. It is the first competitive match, and in Europe against sides usually more technically gifted than most EPL teams, it will always be tricky. I won't buy into that young mantra, but players in key positions that have not played together at this level will always going to be tough for the team to get going. Click to continue reading...

The right result, now for the Premier League

0

Last night was all about the result and on that basis nobody can have any complaints this morning.

Yes, we all know how light the squad is, we know how many players we had out injured, but there really is no need to cover all the old ground again. As expected we started with Ramsey and Denilson in the centre of midfield and I thought overall they did pretty well.

Match Report: Twente 0-2 Arsenal

Arsenal secured a win against FC Twente with goals from Captain William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor. In a drab match Arsenal won whilst not playing at their best. Kevin McCarra: Arsene Wenger has a magnificent arrogance

The Guardian's soft-spoken Scot, and chief football correspondent, Kevin McCarra, after siting that Arsenal's most expensive signing was Sylvain Wiltord for around £11m, eight years ago, described Arsene Wenger as having a magnificent arrogance for trying to compete for top honors on a shoe-string budget. Injury problems give Denilson and Ramsey the chance to impress

0

We spoke during the week about how an injury to either Cesc or Denilson would leave us very stretched in central midfield and sadly that's the situation we're faced with as the former has a hamstring strain that will rule him out for the next two weeks or so.

Not only that, going into tonight's game against FC Twente we're missing also missing Kolo Toure and Philippe Senderos as well as the other names we weren't expecting to play anyway.

Arsenal-FC Twente Preview

3
Doomsday has arrived. At least that's what a lot of you seem to think, that the start of the season is a horrible time because Arsenal haven't strengthened enough and we'll never win another trophy. Personally though I'm really happy the real matches start tomorrow evening. We've got the 3rd round Champions League match versus FC Twente of the Dutch league, who are managed by Steve Mcclaren. Wenger's Big Gamble

0
It looks increasingly likely that AW is going to back Denilson to partner Cesc in midfield against FC Twente on Wednesday. With Diaby out injured and Song at the Olympics, the only other choices for the central role would seem to be Eboue or Ramsey, judging by AW's pre-season selections. The consensus is that the Cesc/Denilson pairing is not likely to work as they are too similar in their Click to continue reading...
