Crespo To Replace RVN?

0
After it was confirmed that Dutch international Ruud Van Nistelrooy would be out for the remainder of the season, the Madrid brass began Operation RVN (Replace Van Nistelrooy). It would not be easy to find a player that would fill the shoes of one of the top goalscorers in the world the past decade, but it [. Click to continue reading...

Daily Calcio News and Notes - 11/4/08

1

Here's what I found interesting after reading various calcio news sites today:

-First, we have another managerial change in Serie A. Chievo haven't won since the first week of the season and manager Beppe Iachini has been sacked. Taking his place will be Domenico Di Carlo, who was in charge of Parma until March of last season.

Celtic after Hernan Crespo

4
Here's an interesting story from Goal.com where Glasgow Celtic are rumored to be pursuing veteran Argentinian international forward Hernan Crespo during the winter transfer window. This would be a very exciting move for the Celtic fans and also the Scottish Premier League as Crespo has been an international star for many years, played for many big clubs, and could provide a real lift for the team in their matches whether they are in the Champions League or UEFA Cup come January. Ricardo Quaresma to Inter - analysis

5
Well Jose Mourinho finally got his man with the signing of Ricardo Quaresma from Porto. This is a great move for Inter Milan as they needed some younger players to add to their aging squad, and it also give Mourinho a chance to put his own stamp on the squad. I was beginning to wonder when Inter were going to make a really big move. Click to continue reading...

Olympic Men's Semis

4
The Olympic football has pretty much flown under the radar in the UK until today, with the powerhouses of Brazil, Argentina, Nigeria and, er.... Belgium all in action. Contrary to popular perception, players in the Olympics don't have to be amateur any more, but each team is only allowed to have 3 players over 23 in the squad, therefore creating a very youthful tournament. Who’s the world’s most expensive football player?

1
Mortgage prices are dropping, the credit crunch is hitting us all, and it seems the only things in life that are getting more expensive is food, petrol and footballers. The amount of money spent on individual players these days is ridiculous. Is Cristiano Ronaldo really worth 75 million? If we actually look at what Real Madrid would be getting for their money, it's a name basically. Click to continue reading...

Click to continue reading...

Roma, la caccia è aperta: il nome nuovo è Afellay

1
Nelle segrete stanze di Trigoria si lavora. A fari spenti, sembra. Click to continue reading...

Lázzaro apologises whilst Crespo looks for the exit…

0
Leandro Lázzaro apologised on Thursday for his comments the previous day about Juan Sebastián Verón, which probably wasn't an unwise thing to do, but might not be enough to keep him at Estudiantes when next season begins. Another player looking likely to move clubs is Internazionale striker Hernán Crespo, who's reportedly talked to Milan manager [. Click to continue reading...

Lazio vs Inter 1-1

1
Inter had to travel to Rome to face Lazio for round 31. After Roma's draw to Cagliari they had a good opportunity to increase their lead at the top once again but ended up stumbling also. Crespo was able to put Inter ahead after only 11 minutes when he tapped in a low pass from [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Lazio vs Inter 1-1", url: "http://www. Click to continue reading...

Argentines abroad - 29th & 30th March

1
It was a good week for Argentina's players in the European leagues, with important goals which will affect the title races of a number of Europe's bigger leagues and one or two eye-catchers further down the pecking order, too. And there were also a few expats on show on the opening weekend of Major League Soccer [. Click to continue reading...

Inter held by Sampdoria

0
Inter paid a visit to Sampdoria this week hoping to put the Champion's League defeat to Liverpool behind them. Unfortunately the trip to Anfield cost them the services of solid and speedy Cordoba. He damaged the ACL in his knee and will be out for some time. Mancini also had to rest Ibrahimovic and Cruz [. Click to continue reading...

Editorial: New year’s resolutions for 2008

The publication of this editorial got pushed back by a few days because I was ill earlier in the week not not up to spending too much time typing, but it's coincided nicely with the Arab new year. The merry-go-round begins

4
The Apertura is over, then, and immediately the game of managerial musical chairs has started. Diego Simeone leaving Estudiantes was probably the least surprising development, whilst elsewhere Ossie Ardiles has walked out on Huracán. Gustavo Costas, recently relieved of his responsibilities at Racing, is set to take on a foreign posting. Click to continue reading...

Selección problem

6
Perhaps not the most serious problem really, given that he didn't take part in either of the first two qualifiers. Hernán Crespo suffered a slight contraction in his right leg whilst training with the selección on Thursday, and is now a doubt for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Bolivia. Inter vs Moscow (UEFA CL)

2
Inter had to fight back from being one goal behind to seal a win in Moscow, 2-1. Inter had a difficult first half, struggling through injuries and suspensions, not to mention Viera breaking down again after just 17 minutes. The frailties were clearly evident and CSKA's Jo did not hesitate to point this out be scoring [...] Click to continue reading...

Argentina vs Australia squad news

2
This is the list of 21 players who have been called up for the friendly against Australia, to be played in Melbourne (in the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground) on the 11th of September:

Goalkeepers: Roberto Abbondanzieri (Getafe, Spain), Oscar Ustari (Getafe), Sergio Romero (AZ Alkmaar, the Netherlands)

Fair enough, given the situation with Carrizo (which I'll touch on below). Click to continue reading...
