Wizards to Take on Ex-Wizards

1
Well, not quite, but with 4 players on Chivas, and their coach being former Kansas City Wizards, it certainly seems like it. There will be plenty of old faces on the opposite side of the ball tomorrow, as Chivas has former Wizards Carey Talley, Shavar Thomas, Alex Zotinca, and recently acquired Sasha Victorine, along with the greatest Wizard of all time, Preki on the Chivas USA bench. Dancing with the Wizards

0
Last night on the Conrad Show, Hillcrest made his radio debut and at one point asked Jimmy which Wizards player would be the best on Dancing with the Stars. Jimmy said Kerry Zavagnin was the pick and even noted that Kerry had actually been approached by the show's producers about the possibility. Well, now you get to decide. Click to continue reading...

Jimmy Conrad Show Tonight

0
Live from McFadden's in the uber-cool Power and Light District at 7 p.m. CT. Listen to it in KC on 810 WHB or online at www.kcwizards.com. Word on the street is that the author of Hillcrest Road might just make an appearance tonight during the Conrad show. No one has yet confirmed that rumor, however. Click to continue reading...

Reserve Matches

0
Ok all, I wanted to answer a question posed as a comment yesterday on the reserve recap from the Toronto match. Someone asked if fans will be able to stick around after the Chicago Fire match and watch as our reserves look to improve upon their 6-1-2 record. The answer is yes, please stay. We will be keeping at least a couple of concession stands open and would very much like for fans to stay and watch the reserve squad. Click to continue reading...

KC Welcomes Beckham and the Galaxy

0
Tomorrow afternoon, the Wizards return to Arrowhead Stadium to take on David Beckham and the Galaxy at 4 pm. Both team's are struggling right now, as since the all star break, the two are a combined 1-7-5. LA hasn't won since June. KC's only win since the all star break was a game against Chivas USA that they probably should have only gotten a point out of. Click to continue reading...

Thompson to Start Saturday

1
In Bob Luder's article today about the newest Wizard, Abe Thompson, we get mention that Thompson will be starting up top on Saturday against LA. Onalfo says that Thompson brings a calming influence to the team, and are incorporating him into the offense to get him ready for this Saturday. With that said, we'll likely see Claudio Lopez drop back into the midfield, as Thompson will go up top with Josh Wolff. Click to continue reading...

Struggling Wizards Head to San Jose

1
The Wizards will try to get only their second away win of the season when they go to take on San Jose this weekend. Not since the 1-0 win against Chicago the first away game of the season have the Wizards taken all 3 points on the road. Since then the Wizards are 0-5-5 on the road getting only 5 of the 30 points available for them. Click to continue reading...

Conrad up for Goal of the Week

2
Captain Kansas City now has five goals on the year. Not bad. His latest effort, our last-minute equalizer Saturday against FC Dallas has been nominated for Sierra Mist Goal of the Week. Come on Wizards fans...go vote and get Jimmy on the end-of-the-year ballot!

Take a look at the goal here, if you don't remember it:

He is now our leading scorer with a new career-high. Click to continue reading...

Big D coming to Town

1
There are 10 games left in the Wizards season (more on that later tonight). Tomorrow night the Wizards will be at home to take on FC Dallas. Neither team has any suspension issues heading into this game, but there are some injury concerns. Duilio Davino is out for FC Dallas, and apparently Marcelo Saragosa did not travel to KC with the team. Click to continue reading...

Head for the Rockies

0
The Wizards head west down I-70 to Denver to take on the Colorado Rapids tomorrow night. The Wizards come in after holding off Chivas USA 3-2 at home last Saturday, while Colorado comes in having lost 1-0 at home against Toronto FC. Colorado's fans' spirits are low with the way that the team has been planning and that Coach Clavijo is still in charge of the team after their poor performance of late. Click to continue reading...

U.S. National Team - this is it???

13
Bob Bradley named the squad that is going to face Guatemala in the upcoming World Cup qualifier and while looking through the roster the question that comes to my mind is - don't we have a better team then this? Hasn't the time for Eddie Lewis, Frankie Hejduk, and Pablo Mastroeni come and gone? Who is being looked to as the main goalscorer - Landon Donovan? Click to continue reading...

Here Come the Goats

2
Tomorrow night we get a rematch of last years first round playoff game between the Wizards and Chivas USA. Like last year, Chivas will be without a few of their first team players. Both Ante Razov and Claudio Suarez are questionable for the game with injuries. Sacha Kljestan will also miss the game for the Goats, as he's in China for the Olympics. Click to continue reading...

Line up Shake Up

4
Thad over at The Back Post has the story. It looks like Onalfo is going to be switching things up this weekend with Chivas coming to town on Saturday. Roger Espinoza, Kurt Morsink, and Ryan Pore are dropped in favor of Josh Wolff, Kerry Zavagnin, and rookie Matt Marquess. So we can expect something like this on Saturday it looks like. Taking on the Evil Empire

2
Yes, I know this is from last year, but it's still great.

Anyways, the Wizards travel to DC this weekend to take on United. The two teams come in going in entirely different directions. The Wizards are undefeated in their last 6 games (2-0-4). DC on the other hand has lost their last 4 games, all at home. Click to continue reading...

Children of the mind of Blanco

1

(I've been gone awhile. I may talk about it later. For now, we stick to the football.)

In week 4, this would have seemed a pretty solid result. Now, though - eeugh. That was some ugly sheet, mang.

Not ugly from a technique standpoint, really. The passing in MLS can surprise me sometimes now, and the quality of the balls Conde and Segares (from one end) and Conrad (from the other) were serving up made it look like these teams were actually, honestly playing long-ball, and not just hoofing the damned thing every chance they got.

Here Come the Fire

1
With the "all star break" over, the Wizards are back in action this Sunday against the Chicago Fire. Kansas City comes into the game unbeaten in their last 5 league matches, and have pulled themselves back into the playoff race, after looking like they'd struggle for the early part of the season. They're still the second lowest scoring team in the league, but their 3 goals against Columbus gives hope that they are getting out of that scoring funk. Click to continue reading...

All-Star Recap

1
Hmm, Hillcrest predicts a 3-1 MLS win with goals from Gomez, Cooper, Beckham and Faubert. We get a 3 (nice)-2 MLS win (nice) with goals from Gomez (nice), Blanco and De Rosario for the All-Stars. Ashton scored twice for West Ham. Three correct predictions on the match? Not bad. Correctly predicting the most important aspect (the winner), even better. Click to continue reading...

MLS All-Stars v West Ham

0
Alright ladies and gentlefellow, the mid-season time is here. You know that means, time to prove to the world our best players are pretty darn good. This year's opponent is West Ham United, an English Premier League club from East London. It happens to be brother Hillcrest's favorite team, so he's a little torn tonight. Columbus Preview - Return of the Wolff?

2

That's probably the biggest question surrounding tonight's game against the Crew. Will Josh Wolff make his KC return? He's itching to do so. And if he does, how much of an impact will he have? Clearly, this is a team that needs goals in order to have any kind of shot at the playoffs. Trading Sealy is a bit iffy because of that, but according to Ives they received upwards of $125,000 for him - not bad.

Back to Columbus

1
The Wizards make their token appearance on ESPN tomorrow night when they travel to Columbus to take on the Crew. The Wizards are 0-2 against the Crew this year after dropping the first game in Columbus 2-1 and then being humbled at home 3-0 a few weeks ago. The Wizards come in on a four game unbeaten run in the league (2-0-2) and on a 6 game unbeaten run overall (3-0-3). Click to continue reading...

Some Love From the Outskirts

0
Thanks to the hard work of one of our interns, Libby from K-State, some outlying newspapers are paying a little more attention to us lately. I missed the printed version then, but a reporter from the Arkansas City Traveler traveled to CommunityAmerica Ballpark and took in a game. Here's the online version. Click to continue reading...

All Star first XI lineup

2

The first XI for the 2008 MLS All Star game was announced. This isn't necessairly the starting lineup - coach Nicol will decide who starts. These are just the first 11 guys named to the team. If it were the starting lineup it would look something like this:

Donovan - Cooper

Rogers

Kljestan - Blanco - Joseph - Beckham

Parkhurst - Conrad - Hejduk

Reis

What other players do you think will be added to the team?

On the Road Again

1
The Wizards hit the road again to take on Toronto FC tomorrow at BMO Field. Toronto won the first meeting between these two sides earlier this year 2-0 on two goals by Amado Guevara. The Wizards have gotten only 2 points since that game, and the team hit a new low with the 3-0 loss to the Crew last weekend. Click to continue reading...

Returning Home

The Wizards finally return home in MLS play this weekend, when the Columbus Crew come to Kansas City tomorrow. This is the Wizards first home game in league play since a 0-0 draw with Houston on the 12th of April. Tomorrow's game will be the 2nd time the Wizards will play Columbus this season. On the third game of the team's last 6 game road trip, the Wizards lost to Columbus 2-1. Click to continue reading...

The Cesc Fabregas Show: Stay Away From the Tapas

3

"Stealing a Gilberto goal is like stealing a Rembrandt: they're way too rare to go unnoticed."

Possibly the best line from the Cesc Fabregas Show, which can be viewed in it's entirety here. Yet another reason that I wish I could someday work for NIKE's promo team. It's not "Chappelle's Show"-great, but it's pretty damn good. Click to continue reading...

More on the Weekend

1
I didn't mention this at the time of my post game from the game this weekend, but this blogger is now a dad. Hillcrest Road has a nice tribute to my son, Conrad Michael Kuhn, who was born at 4:48 pm, an hour and a half before the Wizards kicked off against the Red Bulls. The 7lb 15 ounce, 20 inch, latest Wizards fan got a great birthday present from Wizards defender, Jimmy Conrad, who had the Wizards lone goal. Click to continue reading...
