MLS First Kick Announced

2
The full slate of games for MLS Week 1 is now available (below), as is the fact that we're switching our start times to 7:30 p.m. CT next year. Our first match will come Saturday, March 21, 2009 against Toronto FC at the CAB at 7:30 p.m. Single-game tickets won't go on sale until 2009, so the only way to guarantee a ticket to the opener against Mo Johnston's side will be with season tickets. One more great reason to be a Wizards season ticket holder. Click to continue reading...

Thank You Fans

1
To everyone that came out yesterday, a huge THANK YOU. Though we didn't get a victory, the atmosphere was outstanding. Chicago supporters forced The Cauldron to be as loud and boisterous as ever. I sat outside the press box for most of the match and enjoyed the sights and sounds, including this view currently up at kcwizards. Click to continue reading...

Celebration Naming/Some Good Star Articles

0
Hey everyone, thanks a million for all the suggestions about what to name our newest favorite celebration. I don't think the Digital Crawl is coming back, but if you guys tell Jimmy that's what you want the next time he nets two, he just might oblige. We'll whittle those down to five choices and post another poll on the site. Click to continue reading...

Pre-Game Beer Garden/Wizards Weekly/More

2
Greetings Hillcrest Road followers, come join us in drinking the blue cool-aid! No, don't do that please, but hopefully you're just as jazzed up about Saturday as we are. A few pieces of information to which we wanted to draw you attention.

Beginning two hours before kickoff each game this season, we are going to host a pre-game beer garden in the (forgive my use of baseball terms) center-field area behind the (forgive again) batters' eye. Click to continue reading...

Happy Hump Day/Media Day

0
Greetings everyone. Kickoff is in three short days, and we are excited. The guys trained out at CAB today to get a feel for the pitch and the layout. The field looks good and the stadium signage is all starting to come together. It's going to look like a Wizards stadium on game nights!

Media day begins here shortly. Click to continue reading...

3-09-08 Venue Update

1
This week's theme was Just Finish Baby!

In spite of Friday's surprise whiteout both Swope and CAB made great progress.

In the photo below that's not snow on Field 3 -- thankfully it melted as quickly as it came -- that's 2,500 tons of base gravel, finally in place on a dry sub base. Click to continue reading...

3-02-08 Venue Updates

Good afternoon. Well it was good when I started to write this, but as I look out my window toward the SW I see more trouble coming our way...Of course, Saturday's Spring-like weather was too good to be true.

First a CAB policy update:

We'll be rolling out the stadium policies and procedures over the coming days. Click to continue reading...

Heineman Speaks

1
Hello all. Usually Robb himself posts his words on this blog. This time, however, it will be me. The other day, Robb had a very candid conversation with David Streeter of the Topeka Capital-Journal in which he discussed CommunityAmerica Ballpark, The Trails, the players and the technical staff. Selected quotes below. Click to continue reading...

2-16-08 Construction Update

1
Well, no moisture this past week, just bitter cold. But, all in all, it was a productive week on both sides of the city.

Out at CAB, progress continued on the Cauldron seating, although not quite as effortlessly as hoped. Because concrete cannot be poured unless the daily high temperature is projected to rise above 32 degrees, schedules changed daily. Click to continue reading...

Select-a-Seat

0
Hello everyone on this dreary Kansas City day. Select-a-seat just wrapped up and was quite successful. Hillcrest Road stopped by mid-day for a quick glimpse inside the action. See photos below.

Also, we've gotten some details from the scrimmage against Toronto FC. USA international and 2007 MLS Rookie of the Year Maurice Edu scored both goals, in the 44th and 61st minutes. Click to continue reading...

Happy Birthday Sammie J/Select-a-Seat/KZ

0
First of all, happy birthday to customer service guru and photographic bliss subject Saturday Night Sammie J Pierron. Sam turns the big 3-1 today. He and Jimmy were born but four days apart. More photographic bliss:

Second, don't forget about partial-season select-a-seat tomorrow at CAB from 8:30 a. Click to continue reading...

CAB Construction Update

0
It's not easy building in the middle of a Kansas City winter. But despite the rain and snow this week, our construction partner, KC's own JE Dunn kept the Cauldron seating project on track – even if they did have to spend half a day shoveling snow just to get to the work.

Shoveling snow - the work before the work

The key to staying on schedule has been Dunn's timing – closely monitoring the weather forecasts so that they can get the critical path tasks completed within the brief windows between storms.

Kansas City Wizards’ New Stadium Plans, Surprisingly Good

13
The other day, we and some of our commenters poked a little fun at the Kansas City Wizards' plans for the future, which include moving to a minor league baseball stadium for the 2008 and 2009 stadium. Several Wizards fans stepped up to defend their team, and we're not afraid to eat humble pie here [...] Click to continue reading...

Kansas City will play two years in a baseball stadium

16
As expected, the Kansas City Wizards have announced that they will play the 2008 & 2009 seasons at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas. This move will allow the Wizards to play in a more 'intimate, family-friendly atmosphere.'

A little interesting bit, all stadium information seems to point to the site having between 4,300-5,000 fixed seats, but in their announcement, the Wizards specifically said '10,000 seats' are available. Click to continue reading...

The Kansas City Wizards New Home, Handily Next to a Shopping Center

13
Readers who like to characterise MLS as a Mickey Mouse league (don't be shy about it, folks) have a little more ammunition today as the poor old Kansas City Wizards announced their home for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. From playing in the absurdly large Arrowhead Stadium (home to the NFL's Chiefs), the [...] Click to continue reading...
