When Football Ads Were Football Ads

0
As Daryl mentioned, the age of the internet has enabled everything to be a little shorter, quicker and to the point. Unfortunately, many football ads have done more of the same. But remember when they were good? Like, really good? And it was a simple theory too: big shoe company gets tons of stars together, [. Click to continue reading...

The “I Hate International Week” Fun Filler Video

0
Chris and I have decided that we hate international break week. There is essentially nothing to write about in the footy world as all players everywhere prepare for the upcoming international games. (With the obvious exception of the internationally isolationist MLS, who continue to believe that if they just ignore international breaks [. Click to continue reading...

Commercials?!?

1
I guess soccer isn't as far along as I thought. I know it's not an upper-tier sport here; I'm not delusional. But I thought that soccer deserved enough respect to have an important match broadcast uncut, commercial-free, as it is around the globe.

But MSNBC doesn't quite feel that way, and that much was evident during the Brazil-Argentina match this morning. Click to continue reading...

You Might be an American Soccer Fan

4
[With apologies to Jeff Foxworthy, not that he'd know what "soccer" is.]
  • If your gym has seventy-five TVs, but none of them are showing the Olympic semifinal between Argentina and Brazil, you might be an American soccer fan
  • If your official Olympic broadcaster relegates the matchup between these world superpowers of football to cable-only MSNBC instead of the primary NBC affiliate, you might be an American soccer fan
  • If the primary channel of your official Olympic broadcaster is filling airtime with fricking Matt Lauer and Al Roker dorking around pretending to be fricking rhythmic gymnasts during that same semifinal, you might be an American soccer fan
  • If the cable-only carrier of this game breaks in - during play - to show MOTHERFLIPPIN @*#$& SASSAFRASSIN ^@#*% RACKIN FRACKIN #!

Giggity Giggity In Texas

0
If there was ever a reason for me to switch my allegiance to Houston --which I would never do but you know what I'm saying-- it would be solely because they've got Quagmire and Stewie in one of their commercials. I'm that simple.

Victory is mine! Click to continue reading...

A video for Arsenal fans - not so much for Liverpool

I'm a big fan of good commercials and despite my global humanist leanings, I still have a thing for Nike. That being said, I found this video on the Guardian to be interesting. It's no secret that Arsenal's kits this... Click to continue reading...

Guerrilla Soccer Shots

0
OK, while I wouldn't advocate shooting a soccer ball into an open police van, some of the shots this guy makes are pretty impressive, even if a couple might be fake - others sure look legit. And it is pretty funny watching the bewildered police chase him down the street. Cleary Nike has a hand [...] Click to continue reading...

San Marino Becoming Superstars R Us

4
When one thinks of footballing in the Most Serene Republic of San Marino, the Champions League doesn't exactly come to mind. More often it's as the recipient of a thorough beatdown - particularly for Germans - or as the cutsie little nation in those adidas commercials featuring Jose Mourinho & Friends. American Televisions Tuning in to Soccer

2
3.8 million Americans tuned in to ABC to watch the network's first ever U.S. broadcast of a European Championship final. And as we know, they were treated to a great match of attacking, honest football.

Of course 3.8 is a fraction of the number who tune in to watch the NFL's championship game, the Superbowl. Click to continue reading...

Nike - The Secret Tournament

15
A few years ago, Nike put together a series of commercials about a 'Secret 3v3 Tournament' played by 24 professional soccer players from around the world. The Effect Of Thai Energy Drinks On Goalkeepers

4
What do you get when you mix a Thai energy drink with a goalkeeper? A shot stopper that can sell. The video below is a Black Up Coffee ad I found on Sanook Lei. And, because Only Goalkeeping loves, well, everything goalkeeping, I figured this video would be a great addition. Enjoy!

It’s Hard To Be A Yank

I'll admit I spend more time coaching and watching youth soccer live in person than watching professional/international soccer on FSC, so these commercials are likely old news to many of you.
