Bad Title, But Lots of Thursday Stuff

0
First off, get well wishes to HollyCornblog who is recovering from a bad ankle sprain sustained in a nasty fall at work.  Keep it iced and raised ... and, as we like to say to Willie (and to Ruby - but with much less effect), "Heel!" [sic] Between HollyCornblog and Hope Solo, things have been a [... Click to continue reading...

Maddow, Huffington, a Bit of Soccer, and Yeah, Some Palin, Too

2
So Rachel Maddow's new show premiered last night and while I didn't see the whole thing (had a meeting) and didn't see Boltgirl there (not yet, that is), what I saw I liked a lot (not surprisingly).  Way to go Rachel! Ariana Huffington has written about Sarah Palin as the Trojan Moose who distracts the electorate [. Click to continue reading...

World Cup Qualifying: CONCACAF Recap

2
So far, no surprises in the CONCACAF qualifying for the 2010 World Cup. After two games the usual 'Big Three' lead their respective groups and the teams behind them aren't really a shocker either. Two teams we thought would do better this time around in qualifying have a combine two points. Those two I'm talking about [. Click to continue reading...

The official SBI MLS Mock Draft (Version 1.0)

18

Good afternoon folks. It took me a while but I have finally cranked out an MLS Mock Draft.

The mock draft consists of the first round and the first two picks of the second round (I had to include the Red Bulls pick in there for eager Red Bulls fans curious about who might fall to No. 12).

Monday Morning Center Back: MLS Combine musings

2

Good morning all. I'm writing you from North Fort Myers, Florida, where I'm taking advantage of the MLS Combine off day to pay my mother a visit.

Today is also a day to reflect on the action in Ft. Lauderdale, where all the league's coaches and personnel people have spent two days watching the draft-eligible talent.

Monday Kicker: Draft Talk, Ruiz, Cooper and Carvallo

37
Happy Monday to ya, hope everyone had a nice weekend. A lot of goodies to talk about today after the MLS Combine this past weekend. Also a couple transfer updates to mention. Not a lot went down on that front over the weekend but expect it to be a busy week since we are going [...] Click to continue reading...

MLS Combine Day One: The good, the bad and the ugly

6

I know you're just waiting to find out who did and didn't play well at the MLS Combine. Well, I can tell you that there were some standouts in day one, but far more players who just flat failed to impress.

The first game of the day could be best described as terrible. I would go so far as to say it's the worst soccer game I've seen in years, that's all levels (high school, U-10, MLS reserve league).

MLS Combine Day One: power brokers, bad offensive soccer and a new crop of coaches

3

The first day of the 2008 MLS Combine will be remembered for two things. It was the day we saw a new generation of MLS coaches get to work and it was a day that set offensive soccer back about 100 years as nervous draft prospects did little to stand out in front of the scores of MLS coaches and management folks in attendance.

MLS Updates: Guzan, Claudio Lopez, Etc.

40
Nearing the end of the work week but things are starting to heat up around the MLS as we head into the MLS Combine. Plenty to discuss today after a couple deals were talked about and made yesterday. It appears that Claudio Lopez is close to signing with a MLS club, most likely, DC United if [...] Click to continue reading...

College Seniors Invited To Draft Combine

5
Major League Soccer announced the 54 college seniors who will take part in the MLS Combine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from Jan. 11-15. A couple names jump out at me only because I have seen them play in person before. This is expected to be a fairly deep draft from what people around the league tell [. Click to continue reading...
