Meet Jill Oakes - Pro soccer player

9
November 24, 2008 - I first had the pleasure of meeting Jill Oakes when she was coaching soccer at a local high school. In fact it was the same high school she attended six years earlier where she helped the girl's soccer team win league and CIF championships and was named Parade and Gatorade high school player [. Looking Ahead to 2009: The Involvement of College Soccer Players

Hey! I am a new blogger here at FCTP! My name is USvsIreland and I am a student who is a massive fan of US Soccer. Hope you enjoy the first piece.
Looking Ahead to 2009: The Involvement of College Soccer Players

What went largely unnoticed in the furor of our Olympic exploits (or lack thereof) is that the United States sent a Youth National Team to a tournament without a single non-professional player. Click to continue reading...

More (lighter) Soccer News

I'm happy to see that the Bay Area (San Jose, to be specific) will be joining the WPS for the 2009 season.  "Play kicks off in the spring of 2009, with WPS teams based in the Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Jersey/New York, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C. A Few Days Off..

2
Tomorrow I leave for Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, which will be my home for the next three school years. Move-in is Thursday, with the typical orientation/getting used to the campus/meeting people stuff going on the rest of the weekend.

I'll be busy with that, obviously, and just doing the things a new college student does. Click to continue reading...

Out of the gym, onto the field

0
Someone pointed out to me the moment he knew the U.S. was going to defeat Brazil for the gold medal.

It was during the break for the overtime periods, when Brazil's players fell to the ground to rest, exhausted. The U.S. players were obviously fitter, and a tired Brazilian defense would probably give up chances. Click to continue reading...

Another viewpoint

I must strongly disagree with you concerning
American college soccer. American college players have
formed the backbone of Major League Soccer. Players
such as Brian McBride, Taylor Twellman, Michael
Parkhurst, Clint Dempsey; the list is endless; have
provided the foundation of MLS. Click to continue reading...

Interesting perspective

5
An email this morning, relating to my college soccer article:

I'm dad of a recent college player, and your comments have helped enlighten me about the strange nature of NCAA soccer. I've seen about 30, D-I games and I remain puzzled by the nature of college soccer and the boys who play it--and perhaps by the men who coach them. Click to continue reading...

College Cup Preview

2
With the MLS SuperDraft right around the corner, it makes perfect sense for me to write up a little preview for this weekend's College Cup in North Carolina. College Seniors Invited To Draft Combine

5
Major League Soccer announced the 54 college seniors who will take part in the MLS Combine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from Jan. 11-15. A couple names jump out at me only because I have seen them play in person before. This is expected to be a fairly deep draft from what people around the league tell [. Click to continue reading...

BSA College Combine (pics)

9
I went over to Burke Soccer Association's college combine today because, as my wife informed when I left, I'm addicted. I got there in time to see 60 or 70 players warming up to start playing. I didn't have the benefit of seeing the morning training sessions but I knew the one player I'd take, if I was a coach, five minutes into the games. Click to continue reading...

USC vs UCLA running blog

2
It's the women's NCAA semifinal and the UCLA women are making another deep foray into the tournament they have never won. They are the only number one seed left in the competition, and they are facing their crosstown rivals for a chance at the title.
It's scoreless in the first half right now. Sorry I'm late picking this up. Click to continue reading...

MLS Player Movement

33
Okay, I think I have a decent start at this off-season's player movement. 20 Things The MLS Can Improve On

College Football Enjoys Parity - Only 10 of AP Top 25 Poll Teams Have Remained Alive All 9 Weeks

0

Is there para in the 2007 college football game season?

I believe so, given the fact that para intends equality in this case. The old proverb that any squad can beat out any other squad on any given Saturday have got never been more than apparent than this season.

My analysis shows only 10 of the initial AP Top 25 Poll squads have remained in the Top 25 during the first 9 hebdomads of the season.

USA! UCLA!

2
It was when I was watching the highlight video, listening to the chants of "USA" that it occurred to me that it's a little similar to what UCLA fans chant.

Anyway, in this case, it's especially fitting, because no college team has contributed more players to U.S. soccer than UCLA.

Not only have more UCLA players played in MLS than from any other university (50+), more of them have played abroad as well (20+). Click to continue reading...
