Galaxy/RSL running blog

6
Here we go - a depleted Galaxy team versus Salt Lake's finest.
Luis thinks former Galaxy player Clint Mathis can still do some damage. I'm thinking it might be Robbie Findley who hurts LA, but we'll see.

RSL: Nick Rimando, Chris Wingert, Nat Borchers, Jamison Olave, Ian Joy, Will Johnson, Kyle Beckerman, Javier Morales, Clint Mathis, Kenny Deuchar, Fabian Espindola

LA: Josh Wicks, Chris Klein, Sean Franklin, Troy Roberts, Mike Randolph, Eduardo Dominguez, Josh Tudela, Greg Vanney, Bryan Jordan, Edson Buddle, Alan Gordon. Click to continue reading...

Galaxy Post-Season Plans

4
Details for the Los Angeles Galaxy's 2008 post-season tour are starting to emerge. Despite the fact that Los Angeles hasn't won a match in nearly three months, are currently outside the final MLS playoff spot and have a lot of work to do if they are to make the postseason, club officials are busy scheduling exhibition games around the world for this coming off-season. RSL Acquires Will Johnson

2
Real Salt Lake has landed the services of young Canadian forward Will Johnson, adding another key player to their squad that could play a big part in the team's fortunes down the stretch of the 2008 MLS season. He was acquired on Friday from the Chicago Fire in exchange for conditional SuperDraft picks in 2009 and 2011. Click to continue reading...

Post-Houston

Ok, first impression, really sucks to miss Olave. His one knock is that he's prone to yellow cards and so getting suspended hurts. Horst didn't have a howler, but he was obviously outclassed by The Mighty Hawaiian Forehead. Russell looked good, not as good as Wingert/Joy, but much better than Beltran. Next Galaxy coach LINKS

3
We all know Cobi ain't the long-term answer for the Galaxy.

The L.A. Times think Nowak is the one favored. But at last night's Super Clasico, that Leiweke dude was chilling with Arena and raving about the former USMNT coach.

Hmmmm....
  • Hilarious faux Lampard contract.

Kasey Keller and Clint Mathis coming back to the US

5

Both former US National team players Kasey Keller and Clint Mathis are leaving their European clubs in order to head to the United States to play in Major League Soccer.

Kasey Keller began his career with the Portland Timbers 19 years ago. Since then he has spent some time with 7 different European clubs.

Mathis Deal Complete

5
In case you haven't seen the news, the Clint Mathis deal to Real Salt Lake is now complete. RSL acquired the MLS rights to Mathis from the LA Galaxy in exchange for a conditional fourth round pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. Some like this move, some don't. I'm sort of inbetween here on it. I [...] Click to continue reading...

Lots to cover

To all those wishing my wife well, thank you. The doctors still do not know what's going on, but they figured they could handle everything on an outpatient basis, so she's at least home now. Gallstones for sure, but the rest, still a mystery.

First, to RSL. The biggest news is taht it looks like Clint Mathis has been resigned. Click to continue reading...

Clint Mathis To Sign With RSL

1
Major League Soccer is set to welcome back yet another one of it's own as Clint Mathis is reportedly on the verge of a deal to join Western Conference leaders Real Salt Lake. Since the Los Angeles Galaxy still hold the rights to Cleetus, RSL will have to give up either a third- or fourth-round pick in the 2010 SuperDraft to acquire the former U. Mathis To RSL Update

6
It appears a deal is very close to being reached between Real Salt Lake and Clint Mathis. All the club has to do is get all the paperwork done and finalize a deal with Mathis's rights holder, Los Angeles. I'm being told now that the Galaxy will trade Mathis's rights to RSL for either a third [...] Click to continue reading...

Where in the World is Clint Mathis?

5
Back in January, I let you all know that though we don't normally post non-AEK-related Greek League news, I would make an exception for yanks in Greece stories and other news bits that were just too weird to go un-commented upon.  So, eight months ago, I posted the Mathis to Ergotelis bizareneess (I got hundreds [. Cllint Mathis Update

2
So what is Clint "Cleatus" Mathis up to these days? He was in and out at Ergotelis with the club avoiding relegation but his short contract not being renewed. Awhile back he popped up with some MLS reserve teams with the most recent of those being for Real Salt Lake in a reserve frinedly against BYU. Click to continue reading...

Clint Mathis Back to MLS

15
Once the golden boy of US Soccer, Clint Mathis is ready to return back home after a six month stint in Greece. He saw limited playing time for Ergotelis and only managed to net one goal. A source within the league has told me that Mathis is very close to a return home. What [...] Click to continue reading...

TRADE: He Always Comes Back. Clint Mathis to Real Salt Lake?

1
According to Soccer Insider Steve Goff:
"Don't be surprised if Clint Mathis -- yes, that Clint Mathis -- ends up on Real Salt Lake's roster this week. Sources tell the Insider that the club is seriously considering acquiring Mathis from Los Angeles, which has maintained MLS rights to the 31-year-old midfielder-forward since he left for Greece last January.

Mathis On His Way Back?

2
It sure sounds like it. Word on the street according to Steve Goff is that former MLSer Clint Mathis had a failed trial run with Norwegian side IK Start and now looks to return to MLS. Goff says that Mathis should end up on Real Salt Lake's roster by the end of the week. Now LA [...] Click to continue reading...

Return of the Mathis?

1
Clint Mathis has played for NY, & (sort of) LA twice and now he appears on the verge of a return to Salt Lake City. Say what you want about the Georgia boy but it can't be said that Cleetus isn't afraid to go back for seconds. Click to continue reading...

RSL Reserves @ BYU

8

Last night was a rarity in soccer, a big game in which the final score didn't really matter. RSL's reserves beat the BYU Cougars in the Coug's brand new Stadium at South Field in front of 3110 fans. Beat is probably too soft a word, RSL's Robbie Findley put the ball past BYU's Brandon Gillam twice in the stretch of two minutes midway through the first half, at which point RSL seemed to let off the gas.

What about Clint?

18
Scott Wolf and I both wanted LD quotes, but we had to wait until Donovan finished getting his massage. We were escorted down by the locker room. As we waited, Clint Mathis passed by from the equipment room with a Galaxy game jersey flung over his shoulder.
"Clint, is that an official Galaxy jersey you've got there? Click to continue reading...

INCOMING/OUTGOING: MLS Summer Transfer Gossip and Rumor Roundup Pt. 1

14
Its about that time. The time when the silly season is fully underway in Europe and when MLS clubs are looking to make mid-season changes. The sale of Jozy Altidore to Villarreal, for a nice chunk of change, $10 million also makes us consider the other side of the equation as MLS fans wonder, who they might loose as well. DAY DREAMING: Forward Options

Now that Jozy is gone, and a game we played in Washington clearly displayed our deficiencies, who is out there in the market that can take his place?

Time to throw random names against the wall. Maybe one will stick

Why is Clint Mathis training with the Galaxy?

19

The Early Bath has an image that appears to be Clint Mathis training with the LA Galaxy.  At first I thought maybe it was an old image - but Joey Franchino is also there and he has not been with the Galaxy for too long.  Mathis went to Greece long before Franchino came to the Galaxy.

So what is Mathis doing there?

I figured they were driving a car like the one above.

I hope guys like these continue to get the felon/terrorist/leper-type treatment.

Quakes/Gals Preview

5
To start, lets take a sneak peek inside Gals practice this week (click to enlarge)... Say... who's that portly older gentleman on the left? Yes, Clint Mathis, Conyers, Georgia's finest, is in camp with the Gals. Since 2004, he has played 103 games, and scored 17 goals. Call me crazy, somehow I doubt they are [. Where Is Clint Mathis?

AEK vs. Clint Mathis!

1
Tomorrow at noon East Coast Time, AEK takes on relegation-zone Ergotelis.  But U.S. fans of AEK have a second reason to watch: a chance too see yank-abroad Clint Mathis lead the attack for the Cretans and try to steer them clear of relegation.  As is often the case, you can watch the game live here. Red Bulls 2008 Preview and Predictions

RED BULLS PREVIEW - 2008
Let me begin by saying - this is completely based on the team as currently configured. I know April 15th is right around the corner, and 2 signings can change everything, but this is the current situation.
With that said . . .
Lets begin with a Haiku . .

Catching Up With Player Moves - Part II

5
A couple weeks ago I posted the start of a comprehensive list to track all player moves before the season starts. I haven't noticed anyone doing this and it seemed an important thing to keep track of for future use. We tend to forget things like when last year the Rapids traded a major allocation to Toronto for Conor Casey with Toronto FC picking up part of Casey's salary for the year. Catching Up With Player Moves

2

Seeing Celtic's manager Gordon Strachan saying that he's not planning on making any new player signings reminded me of skepticism I had over Brad Guzan making a move to a British team before the winter transfer window closes. He doesn't meet the requirements. And I didn't think it was likely that a move to a team like Fulham would pass muster even on appeal as they already have 2 excellent goal keepers in Anti Niemi and Kasey Keller.

Mathis to Ergo…wait…Ergoto…hold on, I can get this…Ergotopolis…no…

13
OK, I think I have it now: Clint Mathis is heading to Ergotelis FC, or, as someone put it (this guy, in fact) the "other team" from Crete. Now, what the fuck is Ergotelis FC? And I don't mean that in a bad way: in the LA Galaxy's BG era (that's "Before Goldenballs"), [...] Click to continue reading...

Clint Mathis Now a Yank Abroad in Greece

How do I decide when to post non-AEK-related Greek League news? When more than ten of my friends email or text me something along the lines of: "you probably already know this but Mathis is going to Ergotelis...wtf?!" That's right, reports in the US and Greece, have LA Galaxy striker moving to Ergotelis. Click to continue reading...

Twellman stays (again), but Mathis is headed to Europe

21

Just a couple days ago I wrote about MLS rejecting a bid for Taylor Twellman. Well they've done it again. This time Preston North End has offered over twice their inital offer. They upped the $800,000 up to around $2,000,000 and the MLS has again rejected this offer. Preston have no intentions of going any higher than that.

Mathis to Greece, Goodson to Norway

26
Clint Mathis is taking another stab at European football as has left the LA Galaxy and signed with Greece side Ergotelis. His last gig in Europe didn't end so well and his second stand in MLS was mostly a wash. Perhaps a chance with a team that is interested in having him play will motivate him to return to form, as it was obvious MLS bored him. Click to continue reading...

TRANSFERS: Klinsmann to Bayern, Anelka signs for Chelsea

JURGEN KLINSMANN: The former German national team coach has come out of hiding and spurned speculation that he would take over for Rafa Benitez at Liverpool.
