The rumor has Lopez leaving the Wizards to go play for Puebla FC in the Mexican first division, where he'd join fellow MLSer, Duilio Davino. According to the article, Lopez is already dealing with the team's sporting director, Gustavo Moscoso. Click to continue reading...

Speaking of Goals of 2008/Conrad and Lopez up for Awards

0
So just after the YouTube clip comes the start of official Sierra Mist Goal of the Year award voting. Number one and two from the previous clip are on the ballots for the award, which will face some stiff competition from flukey goals like Danny Cepero's goalkeeper tally and that David Beckham guy's long-range bomb into the open net against us in the dying seconds of our game out in LA. Bring on the Crew

The Wizards will go into the playoffs on a high, after dispatching the New England Revolution last night in New England, 3-1. The game started off a little slow, but it was the Wizards who had the best chance early, as a cross by Claudio Lopez bounced right through the box, unfortunately Abe Thompson was not able to catch up with it. Here are four stories you need to read. Some of them were posted before we clinched a playoff berth, so give the authors some slack for that.

1. MLSnet.com piece from our friend Bob Rusert on Kerry Zavagnin and his fond regular-season farewell last weekend. Some very good, insightful quotes here from KZ and company. Click to continue reading...

Claudio Lopez, Player of the week and other stuff...

0
As many of you know by now, Claudio Lopez was named the MLS Player of the Week. A goal and two assists in a dramatic 3-2win will get that for you. This goal reminds of the magic of Lopez. Sometime he can just put a ball around/over a keeper in the coolest ways. Each week, the team has a press conference. Click to continue reading...

Wizards forward, Claudio Lopez was named MLS player of the week today for his performance against San Jose on the weekend. Lopez, in his first start since early September, had a hand in all 3 of the Wizards goals, scoring the first and assisting on the other 2. Wizards Leave it Late

1
A fantastic ending to a back and forth game out at Community America Ballpark last night, as the Wizards got a goal late in stoppage time from Herculez Gomez to put the Wizards back into 7th place in the playoff race. KC now has to match New York's result next week, or hope that DC United does not get a win on Sunday next week. Click to continue reading...

WHAT A WIN!

1
Amazing. That's the only way to describe. Claudio Lopez was simply fantastic tonight, as was the rest of the team. We outshot SJ 23-7. What a touching moment with Kerry Zavagnin before the match. Too bad we didn't score earlier so he could have come on toward the end. Check out the quotes and notables from tonight:

We're on quite a roll over the past few weeks with Sierra Mist Goal of the Week nominations and wins, and it's about time to start thinking about the Sierra Mist Goal of the Year award. We already have two Wizards nominated automatically by virtue of winning the Goal of the Week honor (Davy Arnaud's upper-90 bomb in week 25 and Josh Wolff's spectacular bicycle kick in week 27). We Don't Like the Road

0
First a little history, 23 weeks ago, I was still waiting on my son to arrive, Barrack Obama and Hilary Clinton were still fighting for the Democratic presidential nomination, Hillcrest Road was still scheduled to begin building in the summer, and the Wizards won their last road game. Who would have thought that with only 1 road game left this season, that the Wizards only road win would come in Chicago, a place they've notoriously had trouble winning at. Last night on the Conrad Show, Hillcrest made his radio debut and at one point asked Jimmy which Wizards player would be the best on Dancing with the Stars. Jimmy said Kerry Zavagnin was the pick and even noted that Kerry had actually been approached by the show's producers about the possibility. Well, now you get to decide. Click to continue reading...

Moving on Up

A win is always welcome at this venture of the season. With every match extremely crucial to having a shot at the postseason, these three points will go a long way. The new signings (not so new anymore) Abe Thompson and Herculez Gomez left a strong mark on the match, with Gomez looking dangerous on a number of different occasions.

Reserves Pump TFC 6-0 Sunday

Sorry for the delayed post, here's the release about the match. On the Marinelli goal, I've seen elsewhere that Souter scored, but the refs said the initial fumble by Edwards went over the line and Souter pushed it in afterward. Enjoy the rest of the rundown.

Wizards Return to Arrowhead with Win

0
The Wizards returned to Arrowhead for the only time this season and came away with a big 2-0 win over the LA Galaxy. While last week seemed hopeless, this game, gives hope to the idea that the Wizards actually could make the playoffs this year. With 4 of the last 6 games at home, the Wizards can certainly put up a fight for a playoff spot, but will need help to get in. Click to continue reading...

KC Welcomes Beckham and the Galaxy

0
Tomorrow afternoon, the Wizards return to Arrowhead Stadium to take on David Beckham and the Galaxy at 4 pm. Both team's are struggling right now, as since the all star break, the two are a combined 1-7-5. LA hasn't won since June. KC's only win since the all star break was a game against Chivas USA that they probably should have only gotten a point out of. Click to continue reading...

Thompson to Start Saturday

In Bob Luder's article today about the newest Wizard, Abe Thompson, we get mention that Thompson will be starting up top on Saturday against LA. Onalfo says that Thompson brings a calming influence to the team, and are incorporating him into the offense to get him ready for this Saturday. With that said, we'll likely see Claudio Lopez drop back into the midfield, as Thompson will go up top with Josh Wolff. Click to continue reading...

Let's Face It

4
This team is not good. Today in Houston, it was abundantly clear, as the Wizards fell to Houston 3-1. In hot an humid conditions down in Houston, the Wizards lost Matt Marquess to cramps before the game had even started. When the game started the team came out a little sluggish, Houston did at the same time though, and it was a rather dull start to the game. Click to continue reading...

Allen Hopkins points out two things in this clip that really do make you think "WTF?". The first is how is LA not scoring of Becks corners?
