David Beckham, Jim Brennan and Jorge Flores visit a young fan in the hospital.
Welcome to the All-Star Game - where rivalries (Chivas USA and Galaxy and TFC) are put aside as players take on the world (West Ham).

Predictions, people. I know you've already voted in our Sideline Views poll, but now you need to guess who is going to score. Click to continue reading...

MLS All-Star Gameday

2

The MLS All-Star Game airs live at 4 p.m. on ESPN from Toronto where the inaugural visit of David Beckham is naturally the big story (the natives have missed out on seeing Golden Balls twice before).

Our own Scott Wolf though is singularly unimpressed with Becks' effect on the sport so far.

Harrington Named Alternate for Olympic Roster

2
U.S. Soccer put out a press release a couple of minutes ago naming Dax McCarty (FC Dallas) as an injury replacement for Nathan Sturgis (Real Salt Lake) on the U.S. Olympic team roster. With McCarty moving to the full roster, our starting left back Michael Harrington has been added to the three-person alternate list. Click to continue reading...

Martin O'Neill Would Be Wise To Play Barry This Weekend

1
In one of my recent poll questions, which you can find on the left-hand side of the homepage underneath the blog archive, I asked which story you believed to be the biggest so far this summer. One of the choices was Gareth Barry and his desire to leave Aston Villa for Liverpool, and although I can't remember the exact number, it got its fair share of votes. Click to continue reading...

MLS All-Star Rumors, Stats & More

7

While speculation continues over the Galaxy's reported interest in former EPL star Nolberto Solano (see previous post), another rumor has resurfaced: the future of Landon Donovan.

The source of this one was two-fold.

Donovan was quoted by England's Sky Sports as saying:

"The older I get and the more I play, the more I'm yearning for that highest level I can play at.

Following through

Keith Savage and Lance Parker were great sports on Tuesday. They, the professional athletes of the bunch, took it easy on the amatuer freelance writers. As a token of my gratitude for that and for them letting us use their clubs, I tried to get some good pictures of the duo in action.

I got several good shots of them. Click to continue reading...

Golf for a cause

1
The charity events MLS teams do (like golf tournaments) are hosted by sponsors, so players have to show up, but it's also a time for teammates to bond outside of the regular grind of practice.

Lance Parker poses on the course with the energy drink models.

Bobby Burling gets in the buffet line. Click to continue reading...

Major League Links: 7/22

1
Once upon a time . . . there was a Major League Links. Since I am waiting for my laundry, I figured why not revive the old bugger! MLS Offside has a bunch of stuff going down, so lets just jump into it like a pair of feat in a carp pedicure tank! - Will Landon [...] Click to continue reading...

Golfing gone wild

1
I'll be honest, Luis and I are both crappy golfers. We didn't even have clubs, so Lance and Keith had to share theirs. They were very nice about it, though. We might have golfed a little better, though, if we'd resisted the free margaritas along the course. That doesn't exactly help one's coordination. Click to continue reading...

MLS round-up: Week 17

2
I heard Landon Donovan equalized against the Red Bulls in stoppage time with a pass.

Kinda crazy. But it was nice to see over 46,000 at the game.

The MLS All-Star extravaganza is in a couple days. Let's look at some standings after a bunch of ties. And yes, Salt Lake is still in first place:
WEST EAST
Salt Lake (6-6-6, 24 pts) New England (10-4-3, 33 pts)
LA Galaxy (6-6-5, 23 pts) Columbus (8-5-4, 28 pts)
Chivas USA (6-6-4, 22 pts) Chicago (7-5-4, 25 pts)
Colorado (6-8-3, 21 pts) D. Click to continue reading...

SBI MLS Power Rankings: Week 17

What happens to the SBI MLS Power Rankings when all five MLS matches end in ties? Can there be much of a change? Can there really be any change?

I say there can be. Let's face it, not every tie is the same.

Gone golfing

Greetings all. Sorry for not posting today but we are out at Griffith Park participating in Chivas USA's annual golf tournament. We are trying to figure this golf thing out but so far not so good. Andrea and I are paired with Keith Savage and Lance Parker and they are carrying the foursome for sure.

Some Thoughts On SuperLiga 2008

As we enter the knockout stages of SuperLiga 2008, let me state that while the intensity level was as high for these matches last year, the football has been much better this year. Superliga 2008: Some Thoughts

As we enter the knock out stages of Superliga 2008 let me state that while the intensity level was as high for these matches last year the football has been much better this year. No offense to anybody but an LA Galaxy side featuring Alan Gordon and Edson Buddle as starting forwards and an injured David Beckham would not have advanced to the knock out stages of this year's tournament.

WVH Power Rankings: Week 17 Movers and Shakers

Another week of only a few games, and a couple of SuperLiga contests for MLS clubs. The thing about this week in league play was the draw. Five games saw five draws. Chivas USA-New England Revolution SuperLiga Post-Game Notes & Quotes

0

Chivas USA plunged out of SuperLiga Sunday when Pachuca and Santos Laguna tied 1-1 in San Jose in the night's second game. Chivas USA needed Santos Laguna to beat Pachuca to stay alive in the competition.

It was difficult to conduct interviews with Chivas USA players after the 1-1 tie with the Revs simply because they couldn't really say much considering their future in the tournament was being decided hundreds of miles away as they spoke.

Superliga Group B Matchday 3 Stream of Conscious

Chivas USA 1 v New England Revolution 1
* The Titan Stadium field may only be a small upgrade from the field at the Home Depot Center.

* Another thing that had me puzzled was why the Olympians are playing in this game? It shouldn't matter what side of the coast they are playing on.
