U.S. national team fans weren't the only ones who caught a glimpse of Kenny Cooper's performance against Guatemala on Saturday.

Four Players That Would Bring Change to LA

17
I just read this LA Times piece that suggests that Bruce Arena should make moves for four players currently with Real Salt Lake. All of them would be improvements to what he's working with now but with the exception of The Great Unwashed™, none of them are obvious Mr. Fix-It's. With that in mind I'll pose the following question: if you were going to try to rebuild the good ship Galaxy next year, what four players currently in the league that you had a realistic chance at would you try to acquire? Video: Bruce on Becks

0
I'm sure you've read and heard 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 takes on the Becks-to-AC Milan loan thing so I'll spare you mine. Bruce Arena's is interesting and worth checking out; if he's truly this in the dark about it as the club's coach and GM you really don't have to wonder too much about who is really calling the shots out there in LA LA Land. Video: LA To Give it the Ol' College Try in Buckeye Land

How cute. LA think they have a shot against the now-mighty Columbus Saturday at Crew Stadium. There a bunch of scrappy 'lil guys aren't they? Bless their little deluded hearts. Click to continue reading...

That Wasn’t Supposed To Happen: RBNY 4 - Rapids 5

6

Two come from behind goals to tie the game, one goal for the lead, and the home result? Zero points. Ouch.

Last year, Bruce Arena was highly criticized for his inability to field a consistent squad week in and week out. Coach Osorio is beginning to get an earful for the same.

Thursday: MLS intrigue tonight

0

Admit it. You wrote off the Los Angeles Galaxy, didn't you?

Bruce Arena took over too late to fix the problems this season, you figured. David Beckham is worn down from too much travel, and Landon Donovan can't do it alone. You're not even sure who's playing in goal for the Galaxy now -- the young prospect is hurt, the guy with the big hair didn't look so hot, and they just called up this guy from the USL.

Donovan Named Player of the Week

0
Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan has been chosen as MLS Player of the Week for his three-goal, one-assist performance in the Galaxy's 5-2 win over D.C. United this past Saturday. It is the fourth time this season that Donovan has earned the award and the ninth time in his career.Donovan's stellar performance propelled the Galaxy to a much-needed victory - the first of Bruce Arena's tenure with the club - that helps keep LA in the hunt for the eighth and final playoff spot. Monday Morning Centerback: Can the Galaxy reach the playoffs?

4

Don't call it a comeback. At least not yet.

The Los Angeles Galaxy's 5-2 drubbing of D.C. United raised plenty of questions about D.C. (again) but it also raised the question of whether Bruce Arena, Landon Donovan and David Beckham could help LA secure its first playoff berth in three years.

An American Story

2
What happens when you link up the greatest American coach with the greatest American player in the greatest American matchup? A hat trick of course! The renewed partnership of Bruce Arena of Landon Donovan so successful for the US National Team until Germany 2006 paid dividends for the LA Galaxy last night in the biggest [. Final Result: D.C. United at Galaxy

0

The Galaxy snapped their 12-game winless streak in some style, dissecting a defense that had more holes than their own for a 5-2 win capped by a Pete Vagenas (!) volley in the 81st minute.

Donovan scored his third and the Galaxy's fifth in second half stoppage time although he appeared more than a tad offside.

MLS reforms: Part 1 of ?

0

MLS is easily second-guessed. Fans of other leagues often wonder why MLS doesn't do things the same way as "the rest of the world" (usually, that means "Europe").

I've been working on a way to address all the issues at once. That's not going to happen. So consider this the first part of an indefinite series in which we're going to look at the issues from all angles.

BIG WIN!

0
How about that golazo from Davy Arnaud?? Talk about a long-ronge bomb. The win puts us back into the mix for the final playoff spot, just four points behind D.C. United (who tied FC Dallas 2-2). Check out some notables from the match and the post-game quote sheet.

· Following the match, Kansas City sits 7-9-8, 29 pts in sole possession of 6th place in the Eastern Conference. Click to continue reading...

Last in the league

0
That would be the Los Angeles Galaxy, folks. It's such a contrast to the league's first ten years. During the past three years, no original MLS team has turned over more players or coaches. Luis and I sometimes debate which trade or move hurt the team most, but that's like trying to assess each individual straw on a camel's back after it's broken. Click to continue reading...

LA Galaxy: Bruce Arena still in search of his elusive first win

2

The LA Galaxy is running out of time. They lost to the KC Wizards, 0-2 in Arrowhead stadium as thousands came to see David Beckham. This was a team that they had beaten comfortably in the past. It is too early in Bruce Arena's managerial career with the Galaxy to judge whether this will put them back on track but it is safe to say a slow start is not the turnaround that Tim Leiwecke, the CEO of AEG was looking for.

Quotes Prior to Saturday's Match

I won't trouble you guys will all the details in the front of the release we just sent, since you already know that we're fighting for our playoff lives, as are the Galaxy. I also won't try to tell you who David Beckham is or that he played Wednesday as England crushed Croatia 4-1 on the road. Here, though are quotes from him and Jimmy about the game Saturday. Season Ticket Holder Ranting

1

The Galaxy has recently reorganized their customer service teams to create a new team dedicated just to serving season ticket holders, of which I am one. My new rep has taken the time to introduce himself to me and this got me thinking about whether or not I'd be willing to shell out a serious (for me) amount of cash for next year, given the recent history of this team.

Good afternoon folks. As we hit a bit of a lull before tomorrow's jam-packed slate of World Cup qualifiers it is time to take a closer look at things here at SBI.

Gameday: Galaxy Vs. Real Salt Lake

0

Today the Galaxy takes on Real Salt Lake at the Home Depot Center at 7:30 PDT. You can follow the action via the Direct Kick package or on MLSLive.tv.

After last week's much improved performance I should be looking forward to this game. It's at home, it's again a team that can't buy a point on the road, and they happen to be conference rivals.

David Beckham happy with Bruce Arena

2
David Beckham played his first game under Bruce Arena. The game against New England Revolution played out to a 2-2 draw.
"He works us hard to ensure we understand exactly what he expects on the pitch. It's not going to happen overnight, but the signs are there and we're all behind the manager" Becks said in his blog. Click to continue reading...

Who Will Play Against Real Salt Lake On Saturday?

6

The Galaxy looked sharper than they had in weeks last Saturday against the Revolution, which bodes well for the run they will have to make in order to get into the playoffs. However, this Saturday MLS has, in its infinite wisdom, decided to schedule league matches concurrently with a FIFA World Cup qualifier date.

Bob Bradley compared to Bruce Arena

5
Here is an excellent article from Kartik Krishnaiyer on the MLS Talk blog that goes through the differences between the managing styles of Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley, and also provides some interesting thoughts on the recent callups that Bob Bradley has made for the U.S. National Team. For the most part, I agree with Kartik's column, but I disagree with the comments he made about Clint Dempsey. Click to continue reading...

Bradley vs Arena: Different Styles

Eddie Johnson and Brian Ching celebrate a goal against Barbados, the only game which a current US striker has scored a goal in the last 14 months for the national team.

Bob Bradley's tenure as United States National Team manager has gone about as well as can be expected: A CONCACAF Gold triumph, several victories in the "old world" and thus far a smooth run in qualifying including an elusive win over Guatemala.

Should the Deuce Be Cut Loose?

1

The lone American goal scorer from World Cup 2006 now has consistently played so poorly for the national team if the opponent is not Barbados, that his presence seems to actually help stagnate the side. Dempsey's last good performance for the National Team against a decent opponent was last October in Switzerland.

Arena in the kitchen

0
Somehow Bruce Arena struck me as a bit of a foodie, though I never heard much more about his taste in cuisine other than "he likes a good steak". Simply from the hotels that he approved for the U.S. national team, one could surmise that Arena liked to pick from the best options available. Nothing too remote and spa-like, though, usually something in the heart of the city (often with a good steakhouse on site). Click to continue reading...

A Few Words With New Galaxy Signing Eddie Lewis

2

Headed out to Galaxy training today largely to see how new signing and former UCLA Bruin Eddie Lewis was doing after that ghastly looking head injury in Guatemala last week.

Turns out the 34-year-old Cerritos native was just fine - albeit with a chunk still noticeably missing from his head - and went through the entire 80-minute practice with no restrictions and no problems.

Back to School

Well, where were we then? The Eleven Devils School for Luckless, Brutal and Unskilled Defenders has been quiet indeed during the dog-days lull. Basically, I haven't been watching any football and thus found very little to say as August smoldered away, authoritarian Olympic glories and all. I don't know why the European leagues insist on starting up in August, when it would clearly behoove them to wait until September when I am ready to focus, see. Click to continue reading...

Bruce Arena hates chorizo

11
Great piece by Mr. Gardner of Soccer America today, talking about Bruce Arena's first move with the LA Galaxy. I hadn't even realized how he did the same thing in New York.

As for the comments about what Arena wanted to do in DC, I just want to profusely thank Gulati, Doug Logan, and whoever else realized that was insanity. Click to continue reading...
