Szetela Watches From The Bench As Brescia Drops Another

8
Brescia continued its slide in Serie B, losing its second match in a row, this time to 15th place Piacenza, 1-0. American Danny Szetela appears to have fallen out of favor with coach Nedo Sonetti, having been bumped by 23 year-old Marco Zambelli the past two weeks. Of course the more Sonetti seems to tinker with the lineup, the more inconsistent (and less successful) the side has been. Click to continue reading...

Szetela, Brescia Fall To Livorno

1
Brescia missed a chance to move into 6th place in Serie B after falling to Livorno 2-0 last night at the Stadio Armando Picchi. Szetela saw only the final seven minutes of the game, replacing Fabrizio Zambrella. Brescia is currently in 7th place on 19 points and will be looking for a win this weekend at home against 16th place Piacenza. Click to continue reading...

Saturday: Bye Bye Luhukay, Helloooo Mikey B

2
Bundesliga BOCHUM 2 BMG 2 Michael Bradley went 90 minutes in today's 2-2 draw between BMG and Bochum and he looked alright!  He was guilty of some suspect marking in the 50th minute on Bochum's first goal, as you can see below: In any case, thank god he's getting some minutes, and hopefully this is a sign of [. Missing Five Starters, Brescia Tops Frosinone

5
Playing without a slightly injured Danny Szetela along with four other starters, Brescia topped a feisty Frosinone side 2-1 this afternoon in a rainy Serie B matchup. Brescia defender Marco Gorzengo seems to have recovered well from a calf injury, scoring both Brescia goals to put them at 13 points and fifth place in the league, within striking distance of a promotion spot (for now). USA vs. Cuba, 23-man roster announced (10/11/08)

18
The USA announced their roster for the Cuba match, to be played at RFK Stadium on 10/11/08.  With advancement to the next round close to a sure thing, Bradley has taken a few more risks (well...I'd be happy to debate anyone on how "risky" they actually are) and called in some younger players.  I, for [. Edu And Adu Make Club Debuts, Subotic and Dortmund Avoid Disaster

14
Fresh home from international duty this week, Maurice Edu was not expected to play for Rangers this week against Kilmarnock. A late failed fitness test by Kevin Thopmson pressed Edu into duty as a starter in his debut for his new club before 50,000 home fans. Fellow American DaMarcus Beasley, also fresh back from Chicago, was also on the field as the Ibrox club found themselves down 1-0 in the early going. Click to continue reading...

Altidore Scores Hat Trick in Exhibition Match

6
While their American brothers were picking up a 1-0 World Cup qualifying win in Cuba this weekend, a pair of young American players kept their shooting boots sharp in a pair of friendlies across the pond.

In Spain, Jozy Altidore tallied a hat trick for Villarreal in a 7-1 romp over semi-pro club San Rafael del Rio. Click to continue reading...

PSG: Onyewu's New Home?

9
As the final hours tick away on this summer's transfer window, the faithful of Paris Saint-German seem to think they'll see American Oguchi Onyewu suiting up for them very soon. PSG has been searching for a new starting defender after Lilliam Thuram retired due to a heart condition and attempts to find a quality replacement had failed. Click to continue reading...

Szetela: Back At It With Brescia

3
American Danny Szetela, just back from playing in the Olympic soccer tourney in China, is back into the swing with his Serie B club Brescia. Last night he started and played a solid 30 minutes in a 4-1 preseason friendly win over Darfo (...don't ask). Coach Serse Cosmi substituted five of his starters by the half since he had a four goal lead and perhaps wanted to rest his players for Saturday's Coppa Italia match. Click to continue reading...

Ferrari, Perugia Knocked Out Of Coppa Italia

4
The Coppa Italia tournament already started 10 days ago with first round matches between the clubs at Lega Pro (Serie C) level and below. Two weeks ago, American striker Gabe Ferrari played 47 minutes as Perugia topped Lumezzane 1-0 to earn a berth in the second round. But Perugia's Coppa Italia campaign came to an end this weekend as Ferrari saw 71 minutes of action as Perugia fell to Serie B side Ascoli 3-1. Click to continue reading...

Hammers Unlikely To Move For Ghana Midfielder

0
West Ham United are unlikely to pursue a bid for Ghana midfielder Stephen Appiah. The 27-year-old, who spent the 2002/03 season under new Irons technical director Gianluca Nani at Serie A side Brescia, has spent the last three seasons at Turkish giants Fenerbahce. However, the past two years of his career has been blighted by a serious [. Click to continue reading...

Brescia, Racing Santander Agree to Terms on Szetela

7
It appears American Danny Szetela will be staying at Serie B side Brescia a bit longer. According to the Corriere Dello Sport, the club has agreed to terms to buy the previously loaned New Jersey native although terms have not been made public. The midfielder made 10 appearances for Brescia last season and now looks primed to earn more playing time in the coming season. Click to continue reading...

Racing Santander, Brescia Still No Deal on Szetela

2
Racing Santander is still looking to dish off American midfielder Danny Szetela since he does not fit into new coach Juan Ramon Lopez Muniz' plans. He was loaned to Brescia of Italy's Serie B last year where he made 9 appearances. Brescia would like to keep him for another year but Racing wants to sell him and the Italian club does not appear ready to buy. Click to continue reading...

Brescia: Probably Won't Pick Up Option on Danny Szetela?

2
As most fans may recall, American midfielder Danny Szetela signed for Spanish Primera side Racing Santander in 2007 and was loaned to Brescia of Italy's Serie B last year. Part of the loan deal was that Brescia has the opportunity to buy Szetela provided they pick up that option by June 30th. Current indications out of Brescia, where Szetela made 9 decent appearances this past spring, are that the club will send him back to Spain. Click to continue reading...

Serie B makes roster changes and other news from the second division

0

Serie B (which I still consider to be Europe's top second division) has made some changes for next season regarding squad size. Even though they play 42 games in Serie B, lots of squads have very big rosters and most coaches don't tinker with the line-up often, which culminates in lots of players sitting on the bench all year.

Danny Szetela loaned out to Brescia

10
Steve Goff at the Washington Post has thrown this little teaser in his early evening round-up. It apparently is with an option to buy. Haven't seen it anywhere else yet. Not even in the Italian press. Szetela originally turned down an August offer from Brescia to sign for Racing Santander. With his Santander first-team hopes pretty [. Click to continue reading...
