Bouna Off to Claim What Is His

0
When you are enjoying your Starbuck's double tall non-fat this Saturday morning, spare a thought for Colorado Rapids' favorite, Bouna Coundoul. Bouna is currently in his native Senegal preparing for a crucial World Cup qualifier against Gambia which kicks off at 10am Mountain Time. Click to continue reading...

Rapids 1stXI Beat Dallas Reserves

0
Well, it could have been a first eleven. With a defense featuring Bouna, Ihemelu, Burciaga and Erpen and a midfield consisting of DiRaimondo, Peterson, Christian Gomez and Dalby, the Colorado Rapids fielded a very strong reserve team today in a straightforward 3-0 victory over visiting Dallas. Bouna to Follow Herc Out The Rapids' Door?

3
There's a nice write-up about Bouna Coundoul in the Denver Post (link below) and how he is caught between a rock and a hard place both at home and with the Senegal national team. He's saying all the right things about being happy as a deputy to Preston Burpo but it is clear how frustrated he is at being on the bench both for the Colorado Rapids and Senegal. If It's Thursday, It Must Be Dallas

0
Crikey! Didn't we just play a game? The Colorado Rapids have a very quick turnaround this week and will be off tomorrow for the game on Thursday night against Dallas. Unfortunately, that gives me no time to get up to training due to work commitments to suss out camp mood and get an idea of the line-up. Click to continue reading...

Rapids Go To War In Battle Formation

4
If you look at the Colorado Rapids website, you'll see this weekend's projected formation lined up looking like some Roman gladiators. The formation is listed as basically two lines of four and five in defense and midfield with lone striker,Conor Casey, up front. Here is the link to the website. Click to continue reading...

Pablo Wins, Omar Comes In Late, Bouna Benched

3
Mixed fortunes for the Colorado Rapids players representing their national teams yesterday in various parts of the world. Pablo Mastroeni played 78 minutes for the US team as they defeated Guatemala 1-0 in Guatemala City in their first World Cup qualifying game of this next stage. Click to continue reading...

Rapids Called Up For National Duty to Add to Mix

3
Bouna Coundoul, Pablo Mastroeni and Omar Cummings have all been called up for their respective national teams for international fixtures next week. Bouna will be off to Tripoli for a Senegal friendly against Libya while Cummings and Mastroeni will represent their countries in World Cup qualifiers against Canada and Guatemala respectively. Cynicism is OK But You Can't Win Without Goals

1
The relatively inexperienced midfield for the Colorado Rapids may have to inject a little more cynicism into its play to avoid making the kinds of mistakes that saw the team allow a similarly inexperienced Columbus player last week waltz through it and score the winning goal. Goalkeeper, Bouna Coundoul, said in this week's radio show, "From The Pitch", that Emmanuel Ekpo should have been fouled further up the field. Click to continue reading...

Will He, Won't He?

2
Bouna Coundoul, the long-absent Bouna, is now back in Denver and training hard with his Colorado Rapids teammates. Does he walk straight back into the team after a month of not playing or will he wait on the sidelines a tad longer? We know that coach, Fernando Clavijo, has not been best pleased with his Senegal star for not being in contact during his time with the national team there. Click to continue reading...

Houston, You May Have a Problem

2
OK, bit of a corny headline but there is a good opportunity for the Rapids to vent all their frustrations of the past two weeks on the Dynamo this weekend. Coach, Fernando Clavijo, is very confident he will have the squad to roll the Texans over. Back comes a very solid defense with Ugo Ihemelu returning from pseudo international duty with Canada and Facundo Erpen returning from suspension. Click to continue reading...

It's Not Really Bouna Time Right Now

2
Senegal scratched to a disappointing 0-0 draw with Gambia at the weekend in their latest World Cup qualifying game and the Rapids' Bouna Coundoul was nowhere to be seen. Nobody could have expected Bouna to walk into the national team this time around but what has made it worse is that veteran goalkeeper, Tony Sylva, has now been chosen to captain the side. Rapids Fly Off Into Galaxy; Where is Bouna?

1
It was another perfect morning at Dick's Sporting Goods Park as the Rapids boys went through their paces ahead of this weekend's match before flying off to LA this afternoon. The plane will be without Pablo Mastroeni whose recent strong play has rightly earned him a call-up to the national team. Click to continue reading...

Rapids v Dallas Preview

1
It's good to be back! Very much looking forward to seeing the game tomorrow at DSG Park. Amazing time in Ghana which included watching the Champions' League final in the noisiest bar in the world. But happy to be back in more familiar surroundings and looking forward to reconnecting with the team. Let's hope we get the Rapids that turned out against DC United. Click to continue reading...

Rapids Acquire San Jose Goalie as Bouna Backup

2
I know I'm behind the news somewhat but wanted to post a quick comment on the trade of Kelly Gray and Jovan Kirovski for the San Jose goalkeeper, Preston Burpo. This seems like a solid move on the part of the Rapids. Kirovski, the leading scorer last season, could not find his way back into the team and was some way down the pecking order. Gargoyle Blanco Helps Fire to Win Over Rapids

0
Do you want the good news or the bad news? The bad news is that we lost. The good news was that this was so much better than last week. The Colorado Rapids certainly bounced back from last week's poor performance against San Jose. They played with far more intensity and better creativity. Click to continue reading...

Rapids Sink to Disappointing Defeat

1
Oh dear. All that optimism from the recent games just went up in smoke tonight as the Colorado Rapids deservedly slipped to a 2-0 home defeat to San Jose Earthquakes. Lacking in creativity and verve, the Rapids never got going. Can anybody even remember a solid chance they had all night? Click to continue reading...

Bouna To Miss Rapids Games?

2
Fan favorite, goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul, looks set to miss a big chunk of Colorado Rapids games in May and June because of Senegal national team duties. Senegal are due to play a series of World Cup qualifiers both at home and in other parts of West Africa in June. Click to continue reading...

Watch Out San Jose - Rapidfire Approaching

1
The San Jose Earthquakes have very dangerous forwards in Kamara and Glinton but, by the time they shoot at Bouna, their team may already be three down. I say this not in some marketing bravura but because Rapids coach Fernando Clavijo will be fielding a very attacking formation come the game Saturday night. Click to continue reading...

Rapids Hustle to 1-0 Victory Over Revolution

2
This wasn't pretty but it more than got the job done. A second half goal from Nick LaBrocca from a Jose Burciaga cross was enough for the Colorado Rapids to gain a priceless victory on the road in New England. I know it's only three games into the season but the performances of the Rapids so far give much reason to hope. Click to continue reading...

MLS Salaries Not Exactly Merit-Based

0
Much has already been written about the recent release of MLS players' salaries so I'm not going to add all that much. I'm also not going to say that certain players deserve less than they are actually geting, which some have commented on already. All I want to say is how can a professional sportsman, or anybody else for that matter, live on less than $18,000 a year (Kosuke Kimura, weekend goalscorer John DiRaimondo) and how come merit isn't exactly rewarded (Bouna and Colin Clark on a paltry $33,000 a year)? Initial Enthusiasm Turning Into Season Tickets?

0
It's clear that the opening game of the Colorado Rapids' season could not really have got off to a much better start. And, in the Rapids organization's latest marketing ploy, the comments of some of the fans show this. Fans have been asked to email their impressions of the first game and they are all, of course, highly complementary. Click to continue reading...

Rapids' Injury Updates; Established Players to Fight for Places

0
The good news is that many of the injuries of the Colorado Rapids players are healing in time for the game this weekend against Kansas City. The bad news, for them anyway, is that it won't be that easy to regain their places. In reality, the performances of the younger players in the demolition of the Galaxy at the weekend give Fernando Clavijo a better dilemma than most. Click to continue reading...

Youngsters Shine as Rapids Sink Galaxy

A sellout crowd, a beautiful Colorado evening and a performance to match. The Colorado Rapids ran out impressive winners 4-0 over the LA Galaxy, Beckham et al, in the season opener at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The England superstar duly made the trip and lasted the whole 90 minutes. Click to continue reading...

Senegal Draw Opener - Bouna Doesn't Play!

0
Senegal managed a 2-2 draw with Tunisia in their opening game in the Africa Cup of Nations today. As expected, Colorado Rapids' favorite son Bouna Coundoul did not get a game. He was on the bench but so were all the other squad members who didn't make the starting XI. Click to continue reading...

Elephants Triumph Over Super Eagles

In a match seen as a battle between two of the strongest teams in the Africa Cup of Nations, the Ivory Coast has beaten Nigeria 1-0 thanks to a second half goal from Chelsea's Salomon Kalou. Bouna Named to Senegal Squad

1
He did it. Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul has been named in the final 23-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana. This news more than makes up for the fact there are no current Rapids players in the recently announced US national squad. And, unlike EPL teams, Bouna will go with the full support of the Rapids given that the tournament is not happening in the middle of the MLS season. Click to continue reading...

No Rapids, Yes Cry

1
The US national team roster was announced yesterday for upcoming friendlies and there are no Rapids players on it. OK, it's a bit like saying "Huge Aircrash, no Americans on board" in that the fact there are no Colorado-based players is not the main point but it does raise a question mark over Pablo Mastroeni's future with the national team. It's Bouna's Time

0
Bouna Coundoul, the Rapids goalkeeper and all-round great bloke, has been called up to the Senegal national team squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, according to the BBC. Now, he just has to wait anxiously until January 10 when the squad will be further trimmed before the tournament starts January 20. Click to continue reading...
