On the Ground In Philly

2
Okay, I'm not quite letting go yet.  Here's a bit about the chaos in Philly, post World Series win!  We begin in an anonymous house, somewhere in Philly, as the Phils close it out and some college students watch ... then spill out into the street. From there we move along toward Broad Street ... [. Click to continue reading...

For Crying Out Loud

22
An under 15's cup final. A great day for all involved. A special day for the youngsters. And so it comes to pass that, as Leith Athletic beat Ayr Boswell in the Edinburgh International Soccer Tournament on Sunday, the Ayr manager is sent off and one of the players headbutts the referee. Absolutely brilliant. Click to continue reading...

Keeping Appropriate Distance and Creating Appropraite Value

In the course of being engrossed by the game to game mentality and analysis, it is easy for me to lose perspective of an entire season. At times like this, it is useful to look back on previous posts to remind myself of what I was thinking earlier, and to reapply that perspective to where we are now.

Mid-Season Review part 3: Trades

1
In the third installment of our MSR series, we discuss the trades that United has made since the end of last season. Besides the Gomez move, there were two other fairly significant trades for the team, and I think I actually come out opposed to the popular opinion on both of them. Maybe this can generate an argument or two in the comments? Click to continue reading...

Mid-Season Review part 1: Departures

2
Continuing on in our mid-season review of DC United's roster decisions in the offseason, we move on to the departures. For this entry, our definition of "departure" will be any player who was on the club roster last season, but who is no longer under contract with the team, for reasons other than a trade with another MLS club. Dynamo/RSL express running blog

2
Covering the half that matters!
I don't really mean that, but hey, no one scored in the half I didn't blog.
50th - Almost all RSL - makes sense, since they're on home turf (obligatory artificial surface gripe).
54 - Wingert outside low shot - Onstad has time to check his reflection in the shiny silver ball before catching it. Click to continue reading...

Is Burchie the bomb?

5
Definitively yes! Or at least the potential is there for Marc Burch to really emerge as a weapon this year. For a few reasons...

I had a moment of realization during the Harbour View game last week. It was in the second half, and Burch had just gone on a long overlapping run behind Fred. Click to continue reading...

Peace out, Bobby Lightning

If there was ever a guy that you knew would keep in touch with the club and its fans after his departure, it's good old Bobby Boswell. I'm sad to see him go, because he was certainly a character and made the team a little bit more fun to follow, but at the same time, I don't begrudge him at all for wanting to leave, and I don't begrudge the club for moving him. Boswell To Houston - Done Deal

6
Looks as though the league's best blogger is on the move and as of a little bit ago it is official. Bobby Boswell, the 2006 MLS Defender of the Year is on his way to Houston in exchange for keeper Zach Wells and a future draft pick. With this it looks as though Houston has found [...] Click to continue reading...
