CONCACAF Abroad: Weekend Rewind

2

It was a good week for CONCACAF players in European competitions in mid-week, with Mexican captain Rafael Marquez scoring for Barcelona and Honduran star David Suazo scoring his first goal for Benfica.

Unfortunately, the goal-scoring touch didn't carry over to the weekend.

Americans In Action All Over Europe This Weekend

6
American Jozy Altidore was named to the squad for tonight's match against Primera newcomer Numancia. Given that coach Manuel Pelligrini is without three starters due to injury and is just coming off a midweek Champion's League draw with Manchester United, and Altidore's encouraging debut last week against Deportivo, there is a good chance that Altidore will see more playing time this week. CONCACAF Abroad: Weekend Rewind

It wasn't a great international window for the Jamaican national team, what with two World Cup qualifying losses and the firing of head coach Rene Simoes, but at least one Jamaican player rebounded well from the disappointment.

Marlon King delivered two goals in Hull's 2-1 win vs.

You can call Deportivo La Coruna Team CONCACAF.

Led by Canadian captain Julian De Guzman (above, left) and featuring Mexican winger Andres Guardado and striker Omar Bravo, Deportivo boasts a wealth of talent from the CONCACAF region. That group helped Deportivo pull off one of the upsets of the weekend, a 2-1 victory against Real Madrid.

Michael Bradley to Germany

German club Borussia Monchengladbach has come to an agreement with Dutch side Heerenveen on a transfer deal for U.S. international midfielder Michael Bradley, multiple media outlets are reporting. Terms of the deal were undisclosed. Bradley, 21, traveled to Germany earlier today to undergo a physical, having already agreed to personal terms with the German outfit. Click to continue reading...

Voronin Seals Loan Switch

1
Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin has agreed a one-year loan deal with German side Hertha Berlin, the Anfield club have announced.

The Ukraine international signed for Liverpool on a Bosman free transfer last summer and scored six goals in 27 appearances.

However, the impact of Fernando Torres restricted his first-team opportunities and Robbie Keane's arrival this summer forced him further down the pecking order, prompting the forward to move back to the Bundesliga, where he previously played for Bayer Leverkusen, Cologne, Mainz and Borussia Monchengladbach. Michael Bradley to Borussia Mönchengladbach

0
In something none of us expected, Heerenveen have accepted an offer for Michael Bradley from Borussia Mönchengladbach of the Bundesliga.  The club might sound familiar to you and that is because Kasey Keller once plied his trade for this German side from 2005 to 2007.  Gladbach are back in the Bundesliga 1 this year after [. Enough!

The endless transfer rumors do my head in. Honestly, haven't they gotten out of hand the past few years? From Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham's hilarious annoyance of a few years ago to Cristiano Ronaldo's supposed slavery this summer, haven't we had enough? (Common thread here? Real Madrid ... hmm .

World Club Rankings - 1978 - Top 25

5
Following in the footsteps of Ajax and Bayern Munich, Liverpool repeated as European champion in 1978. This time they did it by continuing their dominance over Borussia Monchengladbach, who they defeated in the 1977 final and the 1978 semifinals, and over Club Brugge, who they defeated in the 1976 UEFA Cup final and again, 1-0, in the European Cup final at Wembley Stadium, with Kenny Dalglish providing the winning margin in the 65th minute. World Club Rankings - Top 25 - 1977

In the quarterfinals of the 1977 Champions Cup, Soviet club Dynamo Kiev defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 in aggregate, ending Bayern's three-year run as European champions. Another West German club made it to the European Cup final, but Borussia Monchengladbach fell 3-1 in the final to Liverpool in Rome, Italy. Click to continue reading...

World Club Rankings - Top 25 Clubs in the World - 1975

Dynasties continued to dominate, as dynasties are apt to do, in 1975. Even though it seems odd to say that the Champions Cup, with a final between two teams from two of the top leagues in the world, was anti-climactic – so I won't – but the final did pit the ninth-place team from England against the tenth-place team in the Bundesliga. 2 Bundesliga Round Up

It's a measure of how much I enjoy this blog that I find myself with itchy fingers. Sunday night is Bag Night. For those of you who haven't come via the Onion Bag, it is published every Monday and usually I am writing my contribution the evening before. As it happens I'm finished and I was pissing about with the Bundesbag's templates (hope you like the new lay out) and I thought I'd have a go at Click to continue reading...
