2
Wenger is a big fan of this young starlet, who just helped his country to the Olympic gold and therefore his club has decided to slap on one hell of a pricetag! Why not join the debate at the COS forum? Benfica have reportedly put a £24million price tag on Argentina youngster ... Click to continue reading...

Merseysiders Must Pay Up For Riera

4
Espanyol president Daniel Sanchez Llibre says Albert Riera could soon move to the Premier League - but insists the winger will not come cheap.

Sanchez Llibre admitted he had received offers from two English clubs, reported by the Spanish press to be Liverpool and Everton.

The Spanish side have fought throughout pre-season to keep hold of their best players, with repeated bids from Benfica for forward Luis Garcia rejected because the Portuguese club would not meet Espanyol's asking price. Click to continue reading...

Money makers from the Olympics

1
With Argentines being crowned Olympic Champions it's always good to see who may have made some money based on their performances in Beijing.
Here are five that I think made them selves some serious cash during the Olympic soccer tournament. 1. Angel Di'Maria, Argentina (above): Everyone talks about Messi and Roman but the Benfica wingers performance was key. Click to continue reading...

Angel the golden boy

7
Four years ago it was Carlos Tevez, on Saturday Benfica's Angel Di María secured his place in Argentine football history by becoming the second man to score a gold medal-winning goal for his country in the Olympic Football Tournament. In a final played in scorching heat in the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing, Argentina rode [. Click to continue reading...

Basile Makes Call-Up

1
Argentine national coach Alfio Basile called up his 23 men to face Peru and Paraguay in September. There were two surprises on this list as Internacional´s Andrés D´Alessandro and Porto's Ángel Di Maria were called up for duty. This left out Benfica midfielder Pablo Aimar and Inter striker Hernán Crespo. Click to continue reading...

Angel of Gold

2
The man of the past 24 hours within the Argentine national team was Ángel Di Maria. He was being inquired about by Real Madrid and then Barcelona but he quickly quashed any speculation as he mentioned that he would remain with Benfica. That would not lead him to to let down as the biggest [...] Click to continue reading...

Roma look to sign El Diablo

11
If there was any doubt that i have been nervous about Roma's chances this year against an aging but still powerful Inter Milan it speaks to the issue that i feel we have yet to replace Ludovic Giuly and Mancini. In there stead we signed John arne Riise at left back from Liverpool and attacker Vincenzo Montella from Sampdoria. Click to continue reading...

Freddie Adu Suspended

0
Freddie Adu will not be able to play against Nigeria in US men's last group game. A tie would mean they will advance to the next round. A defeat would send them home. Adu incurred his booking in the 78th minute in their game against Netherlands. Although he was the key player in the first half [...] Click to continue reading...

Competitveness is a Matter of Perspective

2
A perennial topic of conversation among football fans is whether or not football has become "too predictable" and "too slanted towards the top teams", and often the balme for this is laid at the feet of greedy owners, Sky, globalization or what have you. Veteran denizens of the kingdom will likely know that I'm sceptical of such claims - I'm not sure football's playing field has ever been particularly flat. Click to continue reading...

Tigers Search For Striker Turns Serious

0
Despite some impressive signings already this season, Hull have stumbled upon a real lack of firepower in front of goal, with only Caleb Folan and Dean Windass to lead from the front with only a week to go until the Tigers play their first ever Premier League game.

As expected, many names have been thrown into the rumor mill, with only few been real concrete links with a move to East Yorkshire. Click to continue reading...

David Mosse - ESPN article on Freddy Adu

6
I couldn't disagree more with this article that David Mosse from ESPN has written about Freddy Adu and I don't consider myself a fan nor do I have anything against Adu. Freddy is still a young man trying to find his way in the game, he has a lot of talent, and when he finds the right situation I think he will settle in and begin to realize his potential. Adu's Grace Kelly Moment

5
So, after beginning his career in a strange little federal district, Freddy Adu continues it in a strange little principality. From DC to Salt Lake to Lisbon to Monaco: one of the more unusual soccer career paths, even today. I'm a little puzzled as to why Adu's Benfica performance gets such bland reviews; 21 appearances, five goals and an established role as a super-sub seem like worthy accomplishments for a 19-year-old playing in Europe for the first time. Four Teams in Four Years for Freddy Adu

2
Adu is on the move again. The US international is but a signature away from a loan deal between his current Portuguese club, the Lisbon based multisports giant Benfica, and his new digs with French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

Freddy will settle in at Stade Louis II after a growing CV that also includes DC United and Real Salt Lake. Click to continue reading...

Freddy going to Monaco

2
Our favorite young prospect is being loaned out by Benfica to the French side for the upcoming season.

Monaco has the option to buy Adu after that time.

But I'm happy as long as the young guy's playing. Experience isn't all he needs -- the right training is vital too -- but field time now is a must for him. Click to continue reading...

Joao Pinto ha decido retirarse de las canchas del fútbol tras 19 años de carrera como jugador profesional.
