BA post win

Bruce speaks briefly, sorta.

No, that's not all there was to Bruce's statement on the game. But my battery was flaking out, so that's all the video of Bruce I have. Click to continue reading...

Bruce and Bob

2
Bruce Arena was asked at the Galaxy presser what he thought of the U.S. game versus Cuba.

"It was good," he answered, but he looked so utterly unimpressed that the entire group of journalists cracked up with laughter. "That kind of performance to is be expected. Cuba is not a strong team. Click to continue reading...

Bruce takes the blame

0
I'd like to think that it was my crack reporting skills and persistent questions that got Galaxy coach Bruce Arena to fess up, but as the recording shows, I was asking something pretty general. I think Bruce was looking to vent a bit.

In any case, he didn't hold back.

Bob Bradley compared to Bruce Arena

5
Here is an excellent article from Kartik Krishnaiyer on the MLS Talk blog that goes through the differences between the managing styles of Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley, and also provides some interesting thoughts on the recent callups that Bob Bradley has made for the U.S. National Team. For the most part, I agree with Kartik's column, but I disagree with the comments he made about Clint Dempsey. Click to continue reading...

Arena in the kitchen

0
Somehow Bruce Arena struck me as a bit of a foodie, though I never heard much more about his taste in cuisine other than "he likes a good steak". Simply from the hotels that he approved for the U.S. national team, one could surmise that Arena liked to pick from the best options available. Nothing too remote and spa-like, though, usually something in the heart of the city (often with a good steakhouse on site). Click to continue reading...

From the outside

I always like to read columnists' opinions on soccer, well, columnists who can take an objective look at a game or a hiring or a move or whatever without having to drop in a "soccer sucks" reference.

Anyway, I always enjoy reading colleague Jim Alexander whenever he has the chance to chime in on Chivas USA and/or the Galaxy. Click to continue reading...

Not a fan

2
What can I say, I'm not a fan of Bruce Arena. He did well with the US of course but he certainly is not the mastermind many made him out to be.

Here's my PE column that I wrote about Arena's supposed grandiose tenure with the US national team.

I guess I tried to counter some of what Tim Leiweke said about Arena, that the was the best coach in this country or something to the effect. Click to continue reading...

Brucey Bear

Grahame the wag, no, not that kind, spotted evidence of a cut on Bruce Arena's throat when he came over to answer questions from the press. "What happened?" Grahame asked. "Did you realize you had agreed to take over the Galaxy and then tried to cut your throat?"

Bruce smiled. "I had spinal fusion surgery. Click to continue reading...

The LA LA Circus

3
Alexi Lalas was finally canned, and Rudd Guilt resigned and once again the Circus that is the LA Galaxy is shining more than the product on the field.
MLS flagship team, (NOT) is once again shining more than Barnum and Bailey's, now Bruce Arena wants to be the ringmaster, and reports are that he has been hired to be the ringmaster. Click to continue reading...

Bruce Arena new Los Angeles Galaxy coach

0
Did I call it or what? I actually predicted that Bruce Arena would be the next coach for the Los Angeles Galaxy in an article earlier this week. As you can see from this article from Sports Illustrated it seems like that is actually the case. As I said earlier in the week, I think Bruce is the right choice for this team, but he has to be given a chance. Click to continue reading...

Leiweke speaks

You'll probably see a lot of this circulating around today so I decided to post up the raw audio of it.

Here's audio of Tim Leiweke speaking to the media moments after he spoke to ESPN2 about all things Bruce Arena.

Leiweke doesn't often make halftime appearances for us hacks. Click to continue reading...

An MLS return for Arena?

0

Everybody's favorite unemployed American soccer coach apparently has that coaching itch again.

You already knew about Bruce Arena's public interest in the Scottish National Team job. Now there are rumblings out of Chicago that the former U.S. national team and Red Bulls coach has put himself in the mix for the Chicago Fire head coaching vacancy.

Bruce in the booth

1
What I find interesting is that for someone who seemed convinced that he was an excellent coach, Bruce Arena doesn't seem that eager to get back into the coaching mix. When Bob Bradley was let go by New York, he didn't hesitate to jump at the next opportunity. Chivas USA turned out to be a smart move, because Bradley was able to rehab his resume just in time to take on the USMNT job. Click to continue reading...

A couple days after the season ends for New York, manager Bruce Arena tells the club that he is out as head coach and sporting director, ending his tenure with the team after his first full season with the club. New York fires Bruce Arena

4
The New York Red Bulls have sacked Bruce Arena after the club failed in the first round of the MLS playoffs this past Saturday.

"We've made progress this season, but it is not where we want to be," said Red Bull New York Managing Director Marc de Grandpre. "We made a promise to our fans to provide the best quality product on the field. Click to continue reading...

Firing season is here, which MLS coaches are the hunted?

14
The regular season might be over but the firing season has just begun. So which coaches are safe and who has a target on their back? Let's take a look and see.

First, those who are safe:

Tom Soehn (DC United since 2007) - Had some trouble early but regrouped the team and made them into a force. A late season let down is disappointing but nothing close to deserving a pink slip. Click to continue reading...
