I'm a bit perturbed. Really. I may have mentioned something about a 20-page paper due for my
Advanced Creative Writing class. It was going to be narration of the Anchorwomen soccer season.
Their tough record. The heartbreaking finishes. The will to carry on through adversity. It was
going to be top-shelf stuff.

At the end of every soccer season - amateur, college or pro - I always feel like that guy in
Forrest Gump who follows Forrest along his coast-to-coast jogs across the country. For years, this
guy just follows Forrest across the country jogging with him. That is, until the bearded Gump stops
suddenly, presumably somewhere in the southwest, and turns around to his disciples.

They did it. The Rhode Island College Anchorwomen, who hadn't won since August 30th, and having
endured a 15-game winless streak, finally clinched their first Little East Conference win this
afternoon. They did it with only ten players, after Chelsea Creamer was shown her second yellow
card in the first half.

What a day. A day marked by four very odd occurrances: 1. My pocket quacked. 2. I consumed, for the
very first time, a Honey Nut Scooter that tasted like a California roll. 3. A large Dunkin Donuts
coffee committed suicide off the roof of my car. 4. I bought cheese. Now, this may come as a shock
you.

It's that time again - the random post is back - and worse than ever!
I talked to injured sophomore midfielder Kristina Haughey after Saturday's match, and she said that
when she first hurt her knee, she didn't think it was serious. But after an MRI this week, the
injury was confirmed as an ACL tear, which will require surgery and end her season.

Well, here I am.
I'm at the Panera Bread in Smithfield after another RIC Soccer game for the first time in nearly a
year. In all honesty, I didn't know how much I'd miss this little routine of mine 'til today. And
it's only fitting that I resume this habit only minutes after I caught up with last year's senior
captain Kerry Donahue and her mother Pam, both of whom took in this afternoon's RIC-Keene State
game.

Although the final score read 2-1 in favor of Welseyan University, there was a wave of optimism
among the Anchorwomen players and coaches during the post-match scene near the exit of the RIC
Soccer Field.
The game was level at 1-1 for much of the match, and against the same Welseyan side that had beaten
a superior WestConn team 3-2.

For the past two weeks, I became a de facto beat reporter for the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen.
This is due in large part to my assignment for Advanced News Writing class, which called for us to
write a feature on somebody we thought was interesting.
Here's the formula I used to find my subject:
Rhode Island College + soccer player = Christina Tavana
So, without further ado, here it is.

If the game had ended at the half, it would have been an upset of biblical proportions. Okay, maybe
not.
The Anchorwomen held an impressive lead going into the second half for the first time since August
30th against Springfield College last night. Yes, the brightly lit 1-0 score on the maroon board at
RIC Soccer Field showed the game in favor of the home team.

This rain.
Ordinarily, I don't mind rain. I don't mind it Monday-Friday, when I'm trapped in front of my
computer at work. I don't mind it at night, when I'm undertaking reasonable efforts to capture
eight hours of sleep.* I don't mind it in the late-afternoon on a hot, sticky August day, when it
arrives minutes after a severe thunderstorm warning.

It's been over 300 days - 327 according to the maginificent calculator at timeanddate.com - since
my last Rhode Island College women's soccer game. And my, oh my, have things changed
immensely since that heartbreaking evening in Danbury, CT back on November 1, 2007.
For beginners, nine seniors have since graduated.
