Esta noticia es antigua pero producto de una nota recientemente publicada en el Washington Post (en inglés) me pareció que era una buena idea publicar la singular historia del ex jugador de Ñublense de Chile y el New England Revolution de la MLS, Chase Hilgenbrinck.

El zaguero, de un día para otro y mientras aún tenía contrato con el New England, anunció que dejaría el fútbol profesional para ser entrar al seminario por los próximos seis años para luego ser ordenado como sacerdote de la Iglesia Católica.

Después de disputada la primera fecha de los playoffs en la Major League Soccer, me parece que la situación empieza a aclararse y que de no mediar ninguna gran sorpresa los equipos que llegaban como favoritos deberían pasar sin mayores problemas a la siguiente ronda. El único equipo que podría soprender sería el Real Salt Lake que a pesar de haber clasificado de manera dramática, podría encontrar un lugar en la final de la Conferencia Oeste.

What was with the end of that match? Calling the game in the middle of a breakaway? Next to just before a PK, that is the most absurd time a ref could possibly call a game in soccer. If you watched the game from your home (at least the part that made it on the air), you heard a lot of complaining about inconsistent officiating, but over all, it seemed pretty normal for MLS.

It was an odd week in the standings. The top teams from last week did well and so did most of the teams near the bottom. The middle-of-the-pack, though, had some downright terrible losses as DC, New York and Chicago were all embarrassed soundly.

It had a slight affect on the table, though the top and bottom didn't change too much.
