England's youngsters edge out Wales

0
England under 21s scraped through to the European Championship finals with a battling and spirited, if largely unimpressive, aggregate win over Wales. A 2-2 draw at Aston Villa following on from the 3-2 win in Cardiff was enough to see Stuart Pearce's young men looking forward to spending next Summer in Sweden. Click to continue reading...

Two more assistants better than using technology?

0
At an Under-19 tournament in Slovenia at the moment, Uefa are running the first of three trials where two extra assistants help the referee. They stand behind each goalline and give the referee four assistants rather than two.

Alonso 'too slow' says Ranieri

2
The expected transfer of Xabi Alonso from Liverpool to Juventus in the Summer, as we all know, didn't take place. It was thought that the failure of the move to go through was as a result of the Gareth Barry transfer from Aston Villa not materialising. Now, Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri has revealed that he turned down the chance to sign him because he was "too slow". Click to continue reading...

More twists at Newcastle

Crouch praises Redknapp

0
Striker Peter Crouch has put the credit for his return to the England squad down to his manager at Portsmouth, Harry Redknapp. Crouch was not named in Fabio Capello's last two squads but regular football and two goals in his last two games have earned him a recall for the World Cup qualifiers over the coming week. Capello's turn to try Gerrard and Lampard

0
As England prepare for their two World Cup qualifiers over the next few days the rumours suggest that we will be in for the treat of seeing Steve Gerrard and Frank Lampard paired with each other in midfield again. It is believed that as Joe Cole is out with a foot injury, Capello will ditch the plan of having a holding midfield and instead go for the tried and sadly untrusted pairing of Gerrard and Lampard in central midfield. What's wrong at Everton?

2
Everton are a fine side with a great manager. Why is it then that everything seems to be going wrong? They were dumped out of the Uefa Cup tonight as they lost 4-3 on aggregate to Standard Liege. It has been a really tough few days for David Moyes and his team, losing 2-0 to local rivals Liverpool at the weekend and being dumped out of the Carling Cup by Blackburn last week, before this sudden end to their European adventure. Four games for Ramos

5
According to the Sun newspaper, Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has got just four games to save his job. That means he would have to get results at Wisla Krakow, at home to Hull and Bolton and away at Stoke. To be fair, if Tottenham don't win at least three of those games, then I don't think Ramos could complain about being shown the door. Click to continue reading...

Arsene to ring the changes at Arsenal?

1
Arsene Wenger is faced with an interesting problem. Last week he watched his youngsters and reserves destroy a decent Championship outfit in Sheffield United, 6-0 in the Carling Cup.
