following his spell at Inter. Now Mourinho has told Sky Sports that he actually wants to come back
to the Premier League. The former Chelsea coach has only been at Inter since the Summer and the

After the great decision with ridiculous timing to ban Atletico Madrid from playing home games at
their stadium, Uefa has temporarily overturned the ban for the Champions League match against
Liverpool on 22nd October. European football's governing body had ordered Atletico to play their

The Football Association has warned Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear he could face disciplinary action if
he repeats the type of outburst he made at a press conference earlier in the month. During the now
infamous five minute meeting with the press, Kinnear swore fifty-two times.

England under 21s scraped through to the European Championship finals with a battling and spirited,
if largely unimpressive, aggregate win over Wales. A 2-2 draw at Aston Villa following on from the
3-2 win in Cardiff was enough to see Stuart Pearce's young men looking forward to spending next
Summer in Sweden.

A blow for Enland today as it is announced that they will be without captain John Terry and booed
left back Ashley Cole for Wednesday's World Cup qualifying game in Belarus. Skipper Terry missed
the 5-1 win over Kazakhstan at Wembley on Saturday with a back injury, and will not recover in time

At an Under-19 tournament in Slovenia at the moment, Uefa are running the first of three trials
where two extra assistants help the referee. They stand behind each goalline and give the referee
four assistants rather than two.
"The goal is to have one referee with more eyes," Uefa president Michel Platini
told the Uefa website.

The expected transfer of Xabi Alonso from Liverpool to Juventus in the Summer, as we all know,
didn't take place. It was thought that the failure of the move to go through was as a result of the
Gareth Barry transfer from Aston Villa not materialising. Now, Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri has
revealed that he turned down the chance to sign him because he was "too slow".

The turmoil at Newcastle took another twist today when they announced that Tony Jimenez has left
the club. The vice-president (player recruitment) was appointed by Mike Ashley back in January and
was part of the set-up including Dennis Wise, that so upset Kevin Keegan and most of the Newcastle

Striker Peter Crouch has put the credit for his return to the England squad down to his manager at
Portsmouth, Harry Redknapp. Crouch was not named in Fabio Capello's last two squads but regular

As England prepare for their two World Cup qualifiers over the next few days the rumours suggest
that we will be in for the treat of seeing Steve Gerrard and Frank Lampard paired with each other
in midfield again. It is believed that as Joe Cole is out with a foot injury, Capello will ditch
the plan of having a holding midfield and instead go for the tried and sadly untrusted pairing of
Gerrard and Lampard in central midfield.

Everton are a fine side with a great manager. Why is it then that everything seems to be going
wrong? They were dumped out of the Uefa Cup tonight as they lost 4-3 on aggregate to Standard
Liege. It has been a really tough few days for David Moyes and his team, losing 2-0 to local rivals
Liverpool at the weekend and being dumped out of the Carling Cup by Blackburn last week, before
this sudden end to their European adventure.

It is reported that Police are going to investigate racial and homophobic abuse directed at
Portsmouth and former England defender Sol Campbell at Fratton Park during the side's 2-0 win over
his former club Tottenham on Sunday. The thirty-four year old Portsmouth captain has been hugely
unpopular with Spurs fans since 2001 when he left the club and moved to their bitter north London
rivals Arsenal.

According to the Sun newspaper, Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has got just four games to save his
job. That means he would have to get results at Wisla Krakow, at home to Hull and Bolton and away
at Stoke. To be fair, if Tottenham don't win at least three of those games, then I don't think
Ramos could complain about being shown the door.

Arsene Wenger is faced with an interesting problem. Last week he watched his youngsters and
reserves destroy a decent Championship outfit in Sheffield United, 6-0 in the Carling Cup. On
Saturday, he watched his much lauded first team go down 2-1 at home to newly promoted Hull. The
question is, how much better than the reserves are the first team?
