A month ago our form was simply terrible. The international break arrived at just the right time to
provide a distraction for the players. After that, the manner in which we beat both United & City
is something which has acted as a significant confidence booster for the players.
That should've been a catalyst for an extended run of good form.

While the first half belonged to Manchester City who were deservedly beating us. The second half
exemplified the belief and character present in our team to come back and win 3-2.
Comebacks are becoming a recurring theme for us this season. At times we didn't deserve them. But
recently we've started playing attractive attacking football.

Last time Skrtel got injured was for something minor, so I decided to have a little fun with it.
About 30,000 people have checked out the "Unthinkable / Chuck Norris" post (link) and
left 331 comments (so far).
But this time round, it's no laughing matter. With only a few minutes left of the match against
Manchester City the guy ended up twisting his knee, which is going to lead to a lengthy spell on
the sidelines.

Too many unsettling rumours have been doing the rounds over the last week concerning Aggers future,
with Real Madrid his main suitors. It's one thing for a player to say he's happy at a club and
wants to stay but it's another thing for the manager to reinforce that.
Agger himself has said that he's not happy with his lack of playing time but he also fully accepts
that he has to fight for us place.

How nice of Torres to return the favour he was gifted at Goodison Park, and set up Robbie Keane for
his first ever goal for Liverpool. It was a pretty cool goal as well, under pressure (both on and
off the pitch) yet he placed it beautifully into the bottom corner.
He can't be faulted for his workrate which was impressive up and down the pitch.

It's shocking just how easy a game this was for us. You wouldn't think this was supposed to be the
Champions League at all considering the gulf in class. In fact it was so easy for the Reds that it
was almost boring to watch.
At least there was a couple of standout moments, the obvious ones being Keane scoring his first
(link), and Gerrard scoring his 100th.

The starting line up against PSV is unlikely to be affected by news that both Mascherano & Benayoun
are back from injury. But it does mean Rafa will have a full squad to choose from for tonights
game. In reality though they've only had 2 days of training so I doubt either will be starting
against PSV.

I know we shouldn't really underestimate PSV, but it should be yet another case of 3 easy points in
the bag for us. Plus they'll be missing their star creative player (Afellay) who sustained a toe
injury last week. Our game with City on Sunday is far more important but I hope Rafa stills plays
our strongest side against PSV to ensure victory.

I think I'll contradict my post yesterday where I stated that it doesn't really matter who scores,
only that we win (link). The essence of it is still very much true, in that we just want the team
to win, any way we can.
But there's serious positive effects for a player when he scores (not including OG's).

Apart from when we beat United, our form this season has been terrible, thankfully the results have
been pretty good. The thing with derby days though, is that form generally goes out the window. The
possibility of beautiful football is non-existant, and we expect physical battles.
Even though Torres & Keane have both been off form this season, it's Keane that bears the brunt of
the criticism by the media.

Degen is after breaking a couple of ribs and joins Aurelio on our injury hit list, which leaves us
looking a little light in our full back positions. Dossena and Insua have the left-side sewn up.
But what about the right-side ?
Many Kopites would love to see Stephen Darby make the breakthrough to the first team.

This could be a double edged sword for Keane, if he scores, it should give him the confidence to
relax and perform in subsequent games. On the other hand if he doesn't score against a team of
Crewes calibre, that's bound to shatter his confidence even more than it already is.
This isn't the first and no doubt the last time that he has experienced goal scoring droughts.

Gerrard scored his 100th goal, only for the referee to disallow it for some unknown reason. It's
one thing for the crowd to be labelled the 12th man, but when the referee is the 12th man, it's a
bit of a sucker punch. Can't really blame the referee for 2 points lost though.
The harsh reality is we lacked the creativity required to carve open a stubborn Stoke City who were
determined to defend for 90 minutes.

Following Chelskis example of introducing cheerleaders to Anfield Road is probably not the best way
to liven up the crowd. It's sad to say but Anfield Road can be disappointingly quiet at times, fans
clearly need no encouragement for the big games, but it's a very different story for the smaller
ones.

It has been 8 long years since we last played Stoke City. God scored a hat trick in a game we won
8-0 at their place. But I think it's safe to say that they're a much improved side since then (mind
you, so are we). It's common place for new teams to become the whipping boys of the Premier
League.
But Stoke have shown that they're capable of scoring some sneaky goals.
