* Yes, you have entered the clearing house for all tidbits related to the New England Revolution and surrounding soccer clubs of my interest. Here I shall attempt to act like I know what I'm talking about, and should I foul up in my facts or opinions, fe

A look at Seattle's slew

4
I feel kind of sorry for the Seattle Sounders. I know, I know. They've sold like 8,456,981 season tickets already. They signed one of the best American goalkeepers in Kasey Keller over the summer. For sex appeal, and maybe a few goals, they brought in Freddie Ljungberg. The Price is Right pimp/Whose Line? Click to continue reading...

Goodbye to New England's other number 12

0
The first time I interviewed Doug Warren was this past summer outside of the tiny locker rooms at Veterans Memorial Stadium in New Britain, CT. It was after a 120-minute-plus slugfest that shouldn't have been against USL-2 side Crystal Palance Baltimore in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals. Although the Revolution managed to score in the first half, CPB found a goal in the second half. Click to continue reading...

Creating soccer tradition

2
While watching college football Thanksgiving Eve, Thanksgiving Day, the Day After Thanksgiving, and Two Days After Thanksgiving, it occurred to me that Americans love to make associations with holidays and sports. The easiest one is, well, Thanksgiving and American football. Another that springs to mind is the Fourth of July and baseball. Click to continue reading...

Goodbye, Krazy Khano - Smith heads to Starbucks Central

2
Of the dozens of Revolution players I've watched over the years, Khano Smith has been the one of the most entertaining. Whenever Krazy Khano was on the pitch, he made his mark. For reasons good, bad, and sometimes downright hysterical. First, the good. There were times when the tall Bermudan would race down the left like a thoroughbred, knocking over defenders and innocent teammates alike when Click to continue reading...

Cristman to KC for...for..?

0
In a curious move to free up its second-leading scorer, the Revolution traded forward Adam Cristman to Kansas City for allocation money and KC's natural third-round selection. In other words, the Wizards bought Cristman before Seattle could swipe him for free in today's expansion draft. Makes sense.. Click to continue reading...

Confessions, missing players, and a ROY debate

1
I'll be honest: I'm not a huge fan of my last post. Don't get me wrong. I still believe in the ideas set forth, and how younger players could miss their chance in MLS without a Reserve League to hone their skills. It's just that...well...I was passionate about the League. I loved it. I thought that when it was handled correctly - Sunday morning matches on practice pitches - it was a stroke of Click to continue reading...

R.I.P. MLS Reserve League 2005-08

2
Buried under the avalanche of developments issued during last Friday's State of the League address was the death notice of the MLS Reserve League. Alas, the forum in which many of the league's young talent plied their trade has passed on to the afterlife of penalty shootouts, soccer kit flair, and the three-game playoff series. Adventures in journalism, Pt. 2

Another fantastic lead from Soccer America: U.S. kids battle Madrid's future stars THE U.S. UNDER-20 MEN'S NATIONAL team took on some of Madrid's top young talent. The Americans put three goals past Real Madrid C, but that total was match by a 16-year-old Portuguese dubbed the new Cristiano Ronaldo in the Madrid team's 5-3 win. Click to continue reading...

Adventures in journalism

As part of my subscription to Soccer America, my inbox is flooded daily with about 1,341 SA e-mails pertaining to the insanely busy global football scene. Heck, I think my corner kick hitting the family cat two weeks ago may have received mention. I often take about 20 seconds to skim the headlines before deleting, but this one caught my attention: Report: Arsenal Targets Gazidis Daily Mail MLS Click to continue reading...

Because I'm all about MLS Cup this week

The Road to MLS Cup. "It Begins." "Juice Boxes." I actually tried to embed these clips directly on the blog, but after the 78,437th time, I figured I'd just do hyperlinks. ENJOY! Click to continue reading...

Unhappy Fixture List Removal Day

0
A gray, milky sky sits outside my office window. Its subdued light reaches my enclosed shelf, which is plastered with college soccer fixtures. With the Anchormen season now a memory, it's official: all of five soccer schedules* are now sadly moot. (*RIC Anchormen and Anchorwomen, Brown men and women, and Providence College men. Weekend in Wellesley

3
It began with a mild, fog-mired Saturday morning trip up to Babson College and ended with clear, but chilly, late Sunday afternoon ride back to Providence. Another thrilling weekend in the books. I witnessed my school clinch its very first NCAA Tournament victory. Despite their 0-2 defeat the following day, it did not tarnish their efforts in any way. Click to continue reading...

Anchormen fall to Stevens in 2nd round of NCAA's, 0-2

2
Less than 24 hours after clinching its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory, Rhode Island College was eliminated after it fell 0-2 to Stevens Institute of Technology 0-2 at Babson Park Sunday afternoon. Nolan Sandberg clinched the brace with goals at the 43rd and 88th minutes. RIC was relegated to ten men after Dan Rodrigues was shown the red card in the 52nd minute. Click to continue reading...

Anchormen beat Beavers 0-0 (3-1 on PKs); advance to 2nd round of NCAA's

5
In their NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament debut, Rhode Island College battled Babson College for a scoreless 110 minutes before clinching victory on penalties Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field. The first half belonged to the Anchormen, with Brandon Magliore and Ryan Kelley spearheading the RIC attach at length. Click to continue reading...

Saturday Saturday Saturday!

**Brilliant readers, because of the enormous toll that this 20-page-now-10-page paper has taken, I've been delinquent in posting as of late. Please accept my apologies for the brief post.** While catching the final seven minutes of "Saved by the Bell" ("SBTB" to we late-80's children) this morning, a cold reality struck me.
